With our competitive pay and comprehensive benefits, we have the right opportunities to fit your life and launch your career today.Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer - EO/IR Modeling and Simulation at our Rolling Meadows, IL location.  The selected candidate will report to the Systems Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) Targeting Department.  The SEIT Targeting Department supports various Targeting Operating Unit EO/IR programs including LITENING and IRST.

Position Summary:
Assignments include analysis and trades of product line architectures using analytical models and mission level simulations. A primary task for a modeling and simulation engineer is software development of in-house models and algorithms. Strong domain knowledge combined with valuable software development skills are required to produce the accurate models that drive the critical analysis needed to design our future systems. As a member of the SEIT team, a Modeling and Simulation engineer gains a deep understanding of how our systems architecture design process meets our mission level goals.Basic Qualifications Principal Systems Engineer – EO/IR Modeling and Simulation: 

  • BS degree in STEM field with 5+ years related experience or MS degree in STEM field with 3+ years of related experience, or PhD
  • Familiarity with EO-IR systems, sensors, optics, detection and/or tracking
  • Familiarity with physics of IR
  • Experience with modeling and simulation techniques
  • Demonstrated proficiency in analytical thinking and problem-solving skills and systems thinking mindset
  • Excellent decision making and communication (written and oral) skills
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work in an integrated product team (IPT) environment
  • US Citizen with ability to gain Active Secret clearance prior to starting with Northrop Grumman


Preferred Qualifications: 
 

  • Experience with performance modeling and Monte Carlo simulation
  • Experience with probability and statistical analysis
  • Experience with Design of Experiments
  • Experience with algorithm development
  • Experience in an integration and test environment for complex electronic systems
  • Knowledge of MATLAB, AFSIM, Python, or C++

Basic Qualifications Senior Principal Systems Engineer – EO/IR Modeling and Simulation: 
  • BS degree in STEM field with 9+ years related experience or MS degree in STEM field with 7+ years of related experience, or PhD with 4+ years related experence
  • Familiarity with EO-IR systems, sensors, optics, detection and/or tracking
  • Familiarity with physics of IR
  • Experience with modeling and simulation techniques
  • Demonstrated proficiency in analytical thinking and problem-solving skills and systems thinking mindset
  • Excellent decision making and communication (written and oral) skills
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work in an integrated product team (IPT) environment
  • US Citizen with ability to gain Active Secret clearance prior to starting with Northrop Grumman

Salary Range: $99,800 USD - $149,800 USD
Salary Range 2: $153,600 USD - $230,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
