The Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test & Logistics (SEIT&L) Department at Northrop Grumman Oceanic is seeking a system reliability engineer. 

This position is based out of Annapolis, MD.  Distributed work opportunities at other Northrop Grumman campuses may be considered.  In this position you will support complex, dynamic, maritime programs of national strategic importance. This opportunity will allow you to contribute to the development of state-of-the-art oceanic systems, providing exposure to a wide range of advanced technologies, including autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), acoustic and non-acoustic sensors, sensor processing, navigation, platform integration, subsea and maritime surface communication technologies, advanced algorithms, and more.

In this position you will perform functions such as the following:

  • Apply reliability prediction, assessment, growth, and tracking methodologies through both traditional and digital thread enabled toolsets.
  • Work with other engineering disciplines (Systems, Hardware, Software, Electrical, etc.) to analyze system design concepts and conduct a variety of Reliability analyses including predictions and assessments, trade studies, and Failure Mode, Effects & Criticality Analysis (FMECA).
  • Apply reliability centered principles to help ensure the reliability and maintainability of existing, new, and modified equipment.
  • Identify hardware reliability issues and collaborate to develop and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Participate in the development of criteria for and evaluation of vendor equipment.
  • Develop acceptance tests and inspection criteria.
  • Participate in the final checkout of new designs.
  • Provide input to a risk management plan that will anticipate reliability-related risks that could adversely impact operations.
  • Develop reliability models and reliability block diagrams.
  • Develop reliability growth plans.
  • Prepare and brief technical packages to company leadership and government customers.
  • Foster a collaborative environment wherein individuals of diverse disciplines and backgrounds can universally contribute to successful outcomes.

Though not required, experience with Navy customers and underwater/naval systems such as torpedoes, towed vehicles, Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), SONAR/sensor systems, underwater mechanical structures and cabling, submarine payloads, etc. is desired. Experience in anti-submarine warfare, seabed warfare, and Navy tactics would also be desirable.  Multiple positions are available; assignments will be made based on the candidate’s qualifications.

Basic Qualifications for Principal level:  

  • 5 or more years of industry experience with Bachelors in Science STEM field; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD. with 5
  • Current Secret clearance, and willingness to obtain a TS/SCI with CI polygraph.
  • Have a working knowledge of mathematical probabilities and statistical analyses.
  • Ability to perform reliability engineering activities including report generation.
  • Experience working in a team environment to include gathering inputs from others to inform reliability predictions.

Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal level:  

  • 9 or more years of industry experience with Bachelors in Science STEM field; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD.
  • Current Secret clearance, and willingness to obtain a TS/SCI with CI polygraph.
  • Have a working knowledge of mathematical probabilities and statistical analyses.
  • Ability to perform reliability engineering activities including report generation.
  • Experience working in a team environment to include gathering inputs from others to inform reliability predictions.

     

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have a keen interest in working in the maritime surface / undersea domain.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Have experience in the design, production, or maintenance of mechanical, electrical, or optical systems.
  • Have experience with reliability modeling tools such as Siemens MADe, Windchill, and/or Reliasoft
  • Have experience in the Navy, Maritime, or subsea domain.
  • Hold a current Top Secret/SCI and CI Polygraph.

Salary Range: $99,800 USD - $149,800 USD
Salary Range 2: $123,800 USD - $185,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
