Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector is seeking a Principal/Senior Principal Manufacturing Systems Engineer for WCM - Equipment Maintenance and Infrastructure for our BWI Manufacturing organization.

The ideal candidate for this job will have hands on experience implementing a World Class Manufacturing (WCM) effort across a high mix manufacturing maintenance environment.

Roles and responsibilities include:

      Perform technical planning and system integration driving World Class Manufacturing (WCM) process and methods for equipment maintenance and infrastructure. 

      Work in a collaborative team environment to motivate and engage work effort.

      Create and implement a Professional Maintenance plan at a high mix manufacturing facility to improve equipment productivity, enhance process yield, reduce Mean-Time-To-Repair (MTTR), and improve Mean-Time-Between-Failure (MTBF). 

      Partner with technical organizations, OEM equipment vendors, and construction teams to define, refine, and eliminate unplanned downtime.

      Use Lean Six Sigma methods to improve methods and processes.

      Establish and implement an active spare part strategy.

      Understand technical solutions, drawings, and electrical diagrams.

      Use software code strategies to address total maintenance.

The chosen candidate must have excellent communication skills, and must be organized, flexible, and able to multitask in a dynamic team environment.

This req may be filled at the Principal level or the Senior Principal level based on the qualifications below.

 Basic Qualifications for a Principal:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 5 years of relevant experience OR a Master's Degree with 3 years of relevant experience

  • Proven ability to perform problem analysis and resolution using lean and continuous improvement tools in areas such as a World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Environment

  • Proven track record of driving teamwork in a collaborative environment with working knowledge of project management

  • Technical knowledge of equipment design, system maintenance and repair

  • US Citizenship with ability to obtain DoD Secret Clearance

 Basic Qualifications for a Senior Principal:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 9 years of relevant experience OR a Master's Degree with 7 years of relevant experience

  • Proven ability to perform problem analysis and resolution using lean and continuous improvement tools in areas such as a World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Environment

  • Proven track record of driving teamwork in a collaborative environment with working knowledge of project management

  • Technical knowledge of equipment design, system maintenance and repair

  • US Citizenship with ability to obtain DoD Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience leading and rolling out World Class Manufacturing (WCM) with Professional Maintenance or Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) optimization using Data Analytics

  • Minimum of 2+ year demonstrated project management or lead experience

  • Experience setting up and maintaining a large-scale High-Mix manufacturing or test factory within a semiconductor or electromechanical manufacturing environment

  • Working knowledge on infrastructure control, processes and lifecycle including safety, vendor relation and construction

  • Experience with OEM software structure, database algorithms and machine systems to optimize maintenance and infrastructure challenges

  • Lean and six sigma experience with BlackBelt or Lean Expert training

  • Experience working in a union environment

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret Clearance


Salary Range: $99,800 USD - $149,800 USD
Salary Range 2: $123,800 USD - $185,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
