Northrop Grumman Mission Enabling Products has an opening for a Staff Systems Engineer to join our qualified, diverse team at our Integrated Thermal Systems Operating Unit in Beltsville, MD. Our products have enabled global communication, advanced human understanding of the universe and provided for the defense of the nation.
Our business is growing. We currently operate out of a stand-alone facility in Beltsville Maryland with plans to move to a new state of the art facility (currently under construction) in Hanover, Maryland in 2025.
The Systems Engineer role supports the design, development, integration and test of integrated thermal systems such as heat pipes, loop heat pipes and thermal structures. The Systems Engineer will perform technical planning, requirements management, system integration, verification and validation, and analyses for a total thermal systems solution. The Systems Engineer may also support other operating units with subsystems such as optics, deployables, structures, propulsion, power management and control, and lasers. Work is performed at all levels of total system product including concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, in-orbit deployment, and operation.
The successful candidate will perform the following job functions in a team environment:
Requirements Development & Management: Organize and define system level requirements, derive and allocate requirements to subsystems (performing or coordinating analyses as required), manage the requirements baseline in a relational database such as DOORS, write clear requirement specifications, create Requirements Traceability and Verification Matrices (RTVMs), and collect the objective quality evidence (OQE) that verifies requirements are met.
Modeling, Simulation & Analysis: Develop system modeling, simulation, analysis and trade study activities, system capability analysis, thermal systems performance/effectiveness analysis to ensure performance capabilities are consistent with mission requirements.
Interface Management: Identify external and internal interfaces, define parameters that characterize those interfaces performing or coordinating analyses as required, develop interface control documents & deliverables, and participate in system architecture & design development to resolve interface issues and ensure interface compliance.
The successful candidate will ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. The Systems Engineer will also perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation, change management, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware specifications along with reviewing and overseeing design tailoring to meet specification requirements.
The successful candidate will be able to communicate the required inputs and resulting outputs along with the associated context to team members, individual contributors, program management senior leadership and the customer.
