Northrop Grumman Defense Systems sector (NGDS) is seeking a Systems Engineer or Principal Systems Engineer to join our growing team of diverse professionals.  The selected candidate will be motivated, energetic, and willing to learn.  The candidate will work on a small team supporting the Mission Planning and Decision Support Operating Unit (OU) where they will support Agile development of cloud-based solutions in the areas of User Story development, UI/UX development, external system interface design, system architecture and design, system development, integration, and test.

Daily responsibilities include:

  • Support development of system architecture and design
  • Support development of User Stories and Acceptance Criteria for the mission planning products
  • Support development of Interface Design between mission planning products and external systems
  • Support iterative development of UI/UX concepts and designs with customer feedback
  • Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Support functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. 
  • May include travel to other locations

This position is open as a dual level to be filled as either a Systems Engineer or a Principal Systems Engineer per the qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications for Systems Engineer:

  • One of the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree in a technical engineering or related discipline with a minimum of 2 years of related engineering experience
    • Master’s degree in a technical engineering or related discipline
  • Active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance investigated within the last 5 years
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance
  • Experience working in Agile software development environment
  • Experience with Azure Cloud infrastructure technology
  • Ability to work on-site in Hollywood (MD), Melbourne (FL), or Manhattan Beach (CA)

Basic Qualifications for Principal Systems Engineer:

  • One of the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree in a technical engineering or related discipline with a minimum of 5 years of related engineering experience
    • Master’s degree in a technical engineering or related discipline with a minimum of 3 years of related engineering experience
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance investigated within the last 5 years
  • Ability to obtain and maintain SAP clearance
  • Experience working in Agile software development environment
  • Experience with Azure Cloud infrastructure technology
  • Experience with containerization, including Docker and Kubernetes
  • Ability to work on-site in Hollywood (MD), Melbourne (FL), or Manhattan Beach (CA)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD SAP Clearance
  • Experience with containerization, including Docker and Kubernetes
  • Exposure to Infrastructure as Code (Iac) development
  • Experience with UI/UX development
  • Experience with MBSE Tools
  • Experience in scripting/programming languages such as Python, PowerShell, Visual Basic, .Net, Java, C, and C#
  • Knowledge of military mission planning systems
  • Work well in a fast-paced small team environment


Salary Range: $82,400 USD - $123,600 USD
Salary Range 2: $101,400 USD - $152,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
