The Payload and Ground Systems Division within Northrop Grumman Space Systems is a strategic partner specializing in delivering intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance solutions for classified and unclassified missions in space.  Headquartered in Linthicum, Maryland, PGS RSP has offices, manufacturing, and world-class assembly, integration, and test facilities.  We do it all here, on-site, from sensors to payloads to full up spacecraft, supporting Class A to Class D missions.  Our key capabilities include Active RF, Passive RF, and Electro-Optical payloads, space solar power, cross domain missions, and space resilience payloads & solutions.

The Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test (SEIT) organization at Northrop Space Systems Payload and Ground Systems Division in Linthicum, MD is seeking a Requirements & Verification Lead.  The successful candidate will work within the SEIT IPT and alongside multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex sensor system payloads for use in Space .  Requirements management is a critical skillset that interfaces with all disciplines (systems architecture and engineering, hardware electrical and mechanical, digital technology, and software) across the product life cycle.

In this position you will perform functions such as the following:

  • Define/derive system level requirements and establish traceability to customer documents
  • Support the verification of new systems through requirements development, requirements revisions, requirement analysis and flow-down, functional decomposition, requirement allocation, traceability analysis, verification mapping, status tracking, and compliance mapping
  • Influence the design process through regular interaction with, and input to, the design teams
  • Guide the requirements definition and verification process from concept inception through acceptance and delivery
  • Derive and allocate requirements to subsystems (performing or coordinating analyses as required) to support hardware, software, and interface specifications
  • Identify the impacts of system requirements changes on lower-level specifications
  • Adhere to/improve change request processes including impact analysis
  • Develop and implement a requirements management schema including a variety of modules, attributes and linkset definitions
  • Lead requirement verification planning, tracking, and outbriefing; including developing Requirements Traceability Matrices (RTMs) and Verification Description Documents (VDDs)
  • Generate systems engineering data products to support system development, design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, etc.), and verification and sell-off

This role may be filled at either level based on the qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Principal Engineer: Bachelor's + 5 years of exp: Master's + 3 years of exp; PhD + 0 years of exp; or 9 years of exp in lieu of degree.
  • Sr. Principal Engineer: Bachelor's + 9 years of exp; Master's + 7 years of exp; PhD + 4 years of exp; or 13 years of exp in lieu of degree.
  • Demonstrated experience in requirements development/management using DOORS® or similar Requirement Management tool
  • Active Top Secret clearance


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in requirements management and/or systems engineering leadership
  • Demonstrated proficiency in DOORS®
  • Experience with development, design, and/or operation and maintenance of space payloads
  • Active TS/SCI clearance

Salary Range: $96,900 USD - $145,300 USD
Salary Range 2: $120,000 USD - $180,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
