Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector (NGMS) is a leading global provider of secure software-defined, hardware enabled mission systems. NGMS is seeking a Systems Engineer and Principal Systems Engineer to join out Secure Processing team within the Systems Organization. As a Systems Engineer at Northrop Grumman you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation. The selected Systems or Principal Systems Engineer is responsible for testing device drivers, middleware, and applications developed by software engineers for use on Linux and/or VxWorks Platforms.  They will help with the development of system and software requirements, and technical specifications.  They will help identify risks, suggest mitigation, track defects, develop resolutions, and report status.  They will collaborate with engineers to integrate, debug, and verify the developed software and drivers. They will help with writing and executing system and software unit tests to verify and validate requirements and other assigned duties.

This position is located in Linthicum, MD.

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

This position may be filled at either a Principal Engineer or Senior Principal Level:

Basic Qualifications for Principal Engineer Level:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) discipline
  • 5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD
  • Knowledge and/or experience with C/C++, Python, JAVA or other SW languages
  • HW/SW and SW/SW integration skills
  • Experience working in Linux and/or VxWorks
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance

Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal Level:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) discipline
  • 9 Years with abachelor's in science; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance
  • Knowledge of cryptography
  • Strong knowledge and/or experience with C/C++, Python, JAVA or other SW languages
  • Strong HW/SW and SW/SW integration skills
  • Advanced experience working in Linux and/or VxWorks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Secret Clearance
  • Experience working in agile teams
  • Hands on experience working in embedded real time operating systems, both kernel and application side development (e.g Linux, VxWorks, ZephyrOS, FreeRTOS, Greenhills Integrity)
  • System Boot experience (barebox, uboot, uefi, BIOS)
  • Bare metal development
  • Size and speed optimizing software for embedded platforms
  • Modifying and integrating open source software
  • Experience in cryptography
  • Experience developing and testing SW in C/C++, Python, JAVA, JVM and/or RMI
  • Experience  integrating systems HW/SW and/or SW/SW
  • Experience with device driver and middleware development.
  • Experience developing register-level models of hardware IP in SystemC/TLM2
  • Experience developing Device Tree files for custom hardware
  • Experience developing boot software (First stage bootloader, U-boot, UEFI, etc) for custom boards
  • Tools: Git, Atlassian (BitBucket, Confluence, Jira), Jenkins, static & dynamic code analysis

Salary Range: $96,900 USD - $145,300 USD
Salary Range 2: $120,000 USD - $180,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
