We are looking for you to join our team as a Reliability / Principal Reliability Systems Engineer based out of Ocean Springs, MS or Sunnyvale, CA. As a Reliability / Principal Reliability Systems Engineer at Northrop Grumman you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation. What you’ll get to do:

Northrop Grumman Marine Systems specializes in the development, manufacturing, assembly, and testing of missile launching and handling systems, propulsion, and power generation systems for naval surface ships and submarines.  The Reliability and System Safety Engineering Department ensures reliability and system safety are key considerations throughout the program life cycle starting with design and development through system retirement. 

The Reliability / Principal Reliability Systems Engineer we are seeking will be an individual who thrives in a diverse work environment, has outstanding communication skills and possesses a strong sense of engagement and continuous process improvement. The Reliability / Principal Reliability Systems Engineer performs technical planning, requirements development, system integration, verification and validation.  Analyses are performed at all levels and include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. The Reliability / Principal Reliability Systems Engineer ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule and cost constraints. A materials engineering oriented systems engineer capable of developing and conducting electrical, mechanical and non-destructive test procedures with the ability to assess material/component service life is preferred. A fundamental knowledge and/or the interest in developing skills in Reliability and Systems Safety Engineering is also preferred.

Basic Qualifications for Reliability Systems Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or Physics) discipline with 2 years relevant experience; or Master’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or Physics) discipline with no relevant work experience;
  • Experience in development/management and conduct of electrical and mechanical and non-destructive test plans.
  • Ability to develop and conduct customer presentations.
  • Ability to develop schedules, manage budget and complete work according to the developed schedule.
  • Fundamental knowledge of Reliability and System Safety Engineering.
  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Reliability Systems Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or Physics) discipline with 5 years relevant experience; or Master’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or Physics) discipline with 3 years of relevant work experience; or a PhD in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or Physics) discipline with 0 years relevant experience.
  • Experience in development/management and conduct of electrical and mechanical and non-destructive test plans.
  • Ability to develop and conduct customer presentations.
  • Ability to develop schedules, manage budget and complete work according to the developed schedule.
  • Fundamental knowledge of Reliability and System Safety Engineering.
  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or Physics) discipline.
  • Strong background in materials engineering and testing
  • Experience with supporting hazardous material management programs
  • Active Top Secret Clearance or higher

This position reports to Ocean Springs, MS, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Sunnyvale, CA, CA, USA.


Salary Range: $66,600 USD - $115,700 USD
Salary Range 2: $82,000 USD - $142,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
