The Advanced Technology and Materials group is seeking innovative, self-driven System Engineers with a strong manufacturing background to join our dynamic, multifaceted team.  As one of us, your mission will be to ensure that the technology you help develop will protect our nation’s newest rockets and aircraft to meet the stringent standards our nation’s fleet requires.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to complete a wide variety of challenges than span the gamut of effort required to accomplish a world class manufacturing system for a new material designed to protect advanced carbon fiber composite structures. This will include implementing Agile and Lean manufacturing strategies, and developing routines and procedures that meet our quality and manufacturing standards. It will involve acquiring and analyzing data and writing procedures and reports. Our team is responsible for taking technology from pilot scale to production. Along the way, you will learn all about the technologies that make our external protection materials (EPM) unique, gaining valuable insight to ensure our tested products are assets our nation’s bravest service members can trust.

Typical core working hours are from 8:30am to 4pm. The shift is 80 hours over 9 days, which means you get every other Friday off (how great is that?). We have a strong team environment where we all work together with respect and inclusion to solve our hardest problems.  One of your roles will be mentoring junior team members in manufacturing excellence principals.

This role may be filled at the Principal Engineer or Senior Principal Engineer level depending on the qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications:

Principal Engineer

  • BS degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 5+ years of relevant work experience, or MS degree in a STEM discipline with 3+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience with maturing manufacturing processes
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance

Senior Principal Engineer

  • BS degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 9+ years of relevant work experience, or MS degree in a STEM discipline with 7+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience with maturing manufacturing processes
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry experience related to aerospace materials (metals, carbon fiber composites, elastomers)
  • Understanding and command of Lean and Agile manufacturing strategies
  • Manufacturing Review Board (MRB) experience
  • Root cause and corrective action (RCCA) & risk analysis experience
  • Active DoD Secret clearance

Salary Range: $87,600 USD - $131,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $108,600 USD - $163,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
