Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Staff Program Protection Systems Engineer in support of the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program.  Learn more about the GBSD program here.  Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure.  This position is located in Roy, UT.

What You’ll Get To Do:

Systems Engineer, Program Protection will be responsible for working with various Integrated Product Teams (IPTs). The engineer will be part of the overall Systems Engineering and Program Protection team performing tasks specific to Hardware Assurance/Trusted Microelectronics.

Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop the customized Microelectronic Devices Source Protection Plan (MSPP), including the list of all accredited trusted suppliers for the Defense Microelectronic Activity (DMEA) trusted processes to confirm that suppliers are trusted for each respective DMEA-trusted process
  • Develop, implement, and flow down hardware assurance requirements, and monitor to ensure implementation of hardware assurance in the supply chain
  • Develop, deliver and implement a Counterfeit Parts Prevention plan, including training, inspection, and testing capabilities
  • Assessment and analysis of threats, vulnerabilities, and risk for identified mission-critical functions and critical components
  • Proactive planning and implementation of TSN key practices and protection measure selection
  • Risk identification after protection measures are implemented, including follow-up mitigation plans and actions as well as assessments of residual risk.
  • Understand and identify the Trusted flow across the product segments
  • Identifying components that are custom-designed, custom-manufactured, or tailored specifically for GBSD end-use that require use of a Trusted Foundry/Trusted Suppliers.
  • Flowing down Trusted Foundry/Trusted Suppliers requirements to suppliers
  • Continuously assessing the design for changes that may require a Trusted Foundry/Trusted Supplier

This position requires excellent communication, mentoring, interpersonal skills, and ability to interface with senior management, peers, and employees.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.   

Job Qualifications: 

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with 14 years’ experience; 12 years’ experience with a Master’s degree; or 9 years’ experience with a PhD
  • Must be a US Citizen 
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance with ability to obtain Special Access Program (SAP)
  • 2+ years’ experience in presenting technical approaches and findings
  • 2+ years of experience working across multiple task with various team members to generate quality work products.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Specific experience in hardware assurance/microelectronics implementation
  • Knowledge and application of GIDEP tool and its principles
  • Experience with Defense Microelectronic Activity (DMEA) trusted processes or Hardware Assurance/Trusted Microelectronics
  • Experience in developing or employing capabilities/solutions to evaluate and determine the authenticity of Customized Microelectronics Devices (CMDs), including but not limited to the system design, assembly of printed circuit boards, or testing of CMDs. 
  • Experience managing and developing requirements for suppliers that support hardware assurance in the supply chain
  • Experience developing Systems Security Engineering requirements for hardware assurance
  • Direct experience conducting Trusted Systems and Networks and Criticality Analysis
  • Experience in developing an integrated strategy for supplying trust and managing risk in the supply chain management for customized microelectronics devices (CMDs) and developing and employing tools, techniques, or processes (TTPs) to ensure supply chain security ( i.e., National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication 800-161)
  • Knowledge and practical application of Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) DoDI5200.44, specific to Trusted Foundry/Trusted Suppliers
  • Specific experience in Trusted Foundry/Trusted Suppliers
  • In depth knowledge of Special Publication (SP) SP800-161 applicability to supply chain risk management
  • Experience developing Supply Chain Security counter-measures
  • Direct experience evaluating program processes and compliance strategies for large, complex multi-site programs
  • Active Final Top Secret clearance with the ability to gain access to a Special Access Program and adjudication in the last 6 years
  • Model Based System Engineering experience with federated data sources

Salary Range: $139,000 USD - $208,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
