Northrop Grumman Tactical Space Systems is seeking a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer. This position will be located in Dulles, VA and will support Tactical Space Systems Division Mission Systems Engineering (Mission SE) in their development and deployment National Security (NSS) and Space Security (SPS) Satellite Systems. 

This Systems Engineer performs:

  • Technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems.

  • Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. As a Systems Engineer, you will ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.  

  • In addition, this Mission SE will perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 9 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline; 7 years of relevant experience with a Masters' degree; 4 years of experience with a PhD

  • Either a working knowledge of systems engineering principles and processes; experience operating space vehicles (SVs) or working knowledge of and/or application of aerospace engineering principles

  • Demonstrated experience quickly learning new concepts and approaches

  • Demonstrated proficiency in analytical thinking and problem-solving skills and Systems thinking mindset

  • US Citizenship with an active Top Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active SCI clearance

  • Experience with requirements analysis, definition, and decomposition

  • Familiarity with space ground software and operations

  • Experience with Agile development

  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering languages (SysML/UML) and concepts

  • Differentiating characteristics include demonstrated leadership and teamwork capability, interpersonal communication skills and activities (professional/community/extracurricular) and an enthusiastic go getter attitude

  • Effectively communicate and present to project and program management, other technical managers, and customers


Salary Range: $129,700 USD - $194,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
