The successful candidates for this position will work in a technical role in Dulles VA.  This Systems Engineering role is responsible for leading the mission engineering efforts for a space program in the NSS business area within the Space Systems Sector.

The Mission Engineer will support critical national security mission engineering activities to lead, plan, and manage mission utilization of complex space systems and capabilities.  A successful Mission Engineer must have a proven ability to understand and communicate operational mission requirements to engineering teams.  The Mission Engineer will perform system analysis, design optimization, system performance assessments, and operations analysis work in support of integrated mission analysis for current and potential customers.  The Mission Engineer will track Measures of Performance, Measures of Effectiveness and define other metrics to ensure capabilities meet customer objectives.  Successful candidates will demonstrate an attitude and approach founded in the following key characteristics:

This position can be hired as a level 3 or level 4.

Basic Qualifications: 

Level 3:

  • BS degree in Engineering or related technical field and 5 years of applicable experience, or an MS Degree and 3 years of applicable experience
  • Must have US Citizenship with current or active Top Secret clearance with ability to obtain SCI clearance
  • 3 years’ experience with Satellite Ground Systems in the US National Security arena
  • Expertise in space vehicle mission planning, command and control, and operations

Level 4:

  • BS degree in Engineering or related technical field with 9 years experience or MS Degree with 7 years experience
  • Must have US Citizenship with current or active Top Secret clearance with ability to obtain SCI clearance
  • 5 years experience with Satellite Ground Systems in the US National Security arena
  • Expertise in space vehicle mission planning, command and control and operations

Preferred Experience (one or more areas desired):

  • U.S. Citizenship with a current or active Top Secret/SCI level clearance
  • 6 years’ experience with Satellite Ground Systems in the US National Security arena
  • CONOPS development for Space Based programs
  • Knowledge of various mission analysis techniques and software tools
  • Expertise with space and ground product lines

Salary Range: $104,600 USD - $157,000 USD
Salary Range 2: $129,700 USD - $194,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
