Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Sr Principal Systems Engineer to join the Product Line Engineering Center of Excellence (PLE CoE) team within the Digital Engineering and Competitive Design (DECD) organization. Product Line Engineering (PLE) is a way to engineer a family of related products in an efficient manner, taking full advantage of the products’ similarities while respecting and managing their differences. The mission of the PLE CoE team is to foster the adoption of product lines across the organization through coaching, training, guidance, best practices, tools, and metrics for measuring success.

The candidate will support teams that are already taking on product line thinking and help them implement successful product lines by selecting, deploying, and using the right tools for PLE. Responsibilities include:

  • Shape the PLE adoption strategy for teams from a process and artifacts perspective
  • Provide expertise on PLE process, exemplars, and artifacts and usage in a digital engineering environment
  • Create appropriate training materials and PLE adoption templates, guidance, and exemplars, and conduct PLE artifacts and process  demonstrations and training events
  • Define requirements for integration of PLE adoption process with other enterprise processes such program management, engineering management, development, and manufacturing.
  • Guide the implementation of new templates, guidance, and exemplars and integrations by interfacing with internal team members as well as external third-party companies
  • Develop new CONOPS and processes for how various PLE related tools can be used in an integrated fashion to optimize our engineering and manufacturing workflow
  • Ensure our product line engineering strategy is aligned with major tenets of the digital transformation, including MBx, Dev*Ops, and Lean-Agile  
  • Alignment of Engineering and Businesses processes with other disciplines.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's + 9 years of exp; Master's + 7 years of exp; PhD + 4 years of exp
  • Must be comfortable working in an Agile team
  • Demonstrates proficiency in analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Effectively communicate and present to project management, technical managers, coaches, and customers

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Product line engineering experience internal or external to NGC
  • Active in the PLE Community of Practice (CoP) or presented PLE content at relevant industry conferences or NG Symposiums
  • Systems and Software Engineering skills:
    • Requirements management methods and tools, such as DOORS
    • Systems and software architecture development and Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methods and tools, such as IBM Rhapsody, Cameo, etc.
    • Process development tools, methods, and best practices
    • Configuration and temporal management methods and tools, such as IBM ClearCase, Git, etc.
  • Experience with PLE tools, such as BigLever Gears, Siemens Teamcenter Product Configurator, etc.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Coach for Agile, MBx, or other initiatives related to Digital Transformation
    • Participate in NG Coaching Guidance training that includes engineering practices and facilitation skills

Salary Range: $117,900 USD - $176,900 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
