Northrop Grumman Space Systems is searching for a Manager Aeronautical Engineering 1 – "Tactical Manager" in our Mechanical Engineering team within the Launch Vehicles Business Unit at our Chandler, AZ facility.

The selected candidate will be assigned to manage one of the mechanical teams for the following programs as needed:

  • GMD (Ground Based Mid-Course Defense)
  • GQM-163 Supersonic Sea Skimming Target (SSST)
  • Minotaur II
  • Minotaur I/IV
  • GPI (Glide Phase Interceptor) I
  • CNC/Additives
  • Structural Analysis & Test

The Tactical Managers for each program will be responsible for managing technical, schedule, cost, as well as Mechanical Engineering resources allocated to the Program. This includes identifying and addressing program risks to ensure launch success, facilitating technical solutions based on heritage and similar vehicles, tracking the program schedule, and performing CAM duties.

The Manager will lead by example, ensure proper cross-training of the team, and make sure the team understands the requirements of the Program related to the individual tasks that are being assigned to the team. This also includes having periodic meetings with the team to review the ME performance relative to the Program schedule.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform highly complex engineering design, development, analysis, and test activities to support assigned projects Conduct trade studies and evaluate alternative designs
  • Based on broadly defined problems, studies basic design concepts and criteria for complex materials, components, or functional systems and applies the engineering principles involved to develop new designs
  • Anticipate customer needs and finds innovative ways to provide for those needs
  • Look for ways to modify or change existing methods/processes to improve outcomes through constructive ideas
  • Determine engineering tasks required for project planning and execution; Analyze project requirements and develop detailed planning, conceptual designs, and risk analysis.
  • Assume CAM responsibilities and EVMS Reporting
  • Interact with internal and external customers to assist the customer in defining system requirements, and the generation of specifications for products or sub systems
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to engineering team in the design, test, production, and maintenance phases of a project
  • Develop and present materials for project related briefings including design reviews to be given to internal and external customers
  • Support new business and prepare proposal material

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and 5 years of related engineering experience, OR a Master’s in STEM and 3 years related experience, OR a PhD in STEM
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance or higher
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time
  • Launch campaign field support is required at remote site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience supporting integration / testing of flight hardware and oversight of technician work tasking
  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance

Salary Range: $106,400 USD - $159,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
