Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Field Engineer or Principal Field Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Vehicle Engineering organization. This role is located in Edwards Air Force Base, CA.

 

In this role, the selected candidate will be responsible for assessing, coordinating, and dispositioning non-conformances, as they occur in a test environment. The selected candidate will author detailed engineering instructions by collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers ensuring the functional integrity of the product. The candidate must be willing to support a dynamic work schedule, willing to travel to potentially remote locations, and frequently respond to pressing needs on short notice. The candidate must be equally comfortable briefing a government customer, members of program leadership, and working closely with engineers and maintenance personnel.  Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills are essential in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to determine effective technical solutions that are innovative, practical, and consistent with organizational objectives.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems to determine solutions in accordance with product and customer specification.
  • Assess, coordinate, and disposition non-conformance as they arise in the test environment.

This position may be filled at either the Field Engineer OR Principal Field Engineer level.

Basic Qualifications for Field Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in a related discipline with 2 years of directly related professional/military experience OR a Master's degree in a related discipline with 0 years of applicable experience. Six (6) years of related experience will suffice in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with the conceptual operation, and troubleshooting of, typical aircraft subsystems
  • Experience briefing leadership on team progress and goals
  • Must have an active DoD Secret clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment. This SAP must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Field Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in a related discipline with 5 years of directly related professional/military experience OR a Master's degree in a related discipline with 3 years of applicable experience OR a PhD with 0 years of applicable experience. Nine (9) years of related experience will suffice in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with the conceptual operation, and troubleshooting of, typical aircraft subsystems
  • Experience briefing leadership on team progress and goals
  • Must have an active DoD Secret clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment. This SAP must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications for both levels:

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
  • Experience with CATIA V5, NX, Visualization Pro, TeamCenter, MES, or other CAD programs
  • Experience working in an aircraft manufacturing facility
  • Experience interfacing with a military customer
  • Experience with aircraft subsystem design
  • Previous MRB/LE Authority for Engineering

Salary Range: $70,200 USD - $105,200 USD
Salary Range 2: $86,300 USD - $129,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
