Working Environment
The position is available at the Northrop Grumman facility in Goleta CA or Oxnard CA, part of the Northrop Grumman, Space Systems (NGSP) - Space Component Division.  NGSP specializes in deployable systems for spacecraft such as solar arrays, instrument booms, deployable RF antennas and various extendible support structures.

As a Staff Engineer at NGSP in the Product Value Stream Chief Engineering Organization you will be responsible for creating and implementing deployable structures and mechanical mechanisms at the cutting edge of space technology.  You will be responsible for providing a space deployable product line with technical leadership, decision making and oversight from concept creation through the design and analysis phases of programs.  You may also participate in the manufacturing, testing, and integration of the systems with a focus on FRB issue resolution.
 

Product Value Stream Chief Engineers Responsibilities

  • Supports business captures toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives
  • Supports pursuit/proposal efforts by leading the development of innovative deployable systems and architectures to meet mission objectives, applying new principles and theories where applicable
  • Serves as organization spokesperson on advanced projects and/or programs within the value stream. Acts as advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research, studies and applications
  • Supports program execution within the value stream as definitive technical authority for all aspects of engineering on all program elements (hardware/software/support/test).
  • Leads a multi-disciplined engineering team to ensure compliant technical performance with primary focus in the early program phases
  • Maintains cognizance over technical activities within and across programs within the value stream for requirements development, hardware/software design, payload integration and verification/validation activities
  • Leads resolution of unusually/complex technical problems and provides solutions that are highly innovative and achievable
  • Provides technical status/updates and assessment to PMO. Supports PMO in assessing cost and schedule impacts of technical decisions or customer requests
  • Ensures programs within the value stream are adhering to engineering processes and best practices in design, development, fabrication/assembly, test and sustainment of products for our customers and is compliant with company policies, procedures, and quality standards
  • Coordinates with functional organization to ensure execution of program statement of work and technical program requirements are met
  • Serves as the technical point of contact with the customer

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or STEM-related discipline with 14 years of experience, or 12 years with a Master's Degree and 9 years of experience with a Ph.D.
  • Background in Space deployable mechanisms and structures.
  • Experience as technical lead, Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead, or other leadership role in a program office or business function with demonstrated team building, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience within business captures/proposals and program execution
  • Well versed, experienced and disciplined in technical decision making (ERB, MRB, FRB)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Leadership experience including some of the following: project planning, cost and schedule management and tracking, technology management, risk management, performance reporting, proposals, manufacturing support, vendor selection and management, hardware specification, and program staffing
  • Current & active DoD secret or TS/SCI security clearance

This position reports to Goleta, CA, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Oxnard, CA, CA, USA.


Salary Range: $173,300 USD - $259,900 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
