    We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team. This position may be filled out of Goleta, CA or Oxnard, CA.

    This position may be filled at either a level 2 or a level 3

    Job Summary

    Role and Responsibilities:

    • Establish and maintain the master geometry 3D Solid Model Database.
    • Prepare conceptual layouts and designs of tools and fixtures based on engineering definition of requirements and constraints.
    • Establish critical dimensions and tolerances; specify material, finishes and other data necessary for other drafters to prepare simple layouts or detail and assembly drawings.
    • Coordinate all activities of the project in the area of CAD information exchange, maintain project standards and guidelines.
    • Coordinate project tasks for other Designers and CAD Drafters.
    • Operate within the Product Data Management (PDM) system.
    • Understand and implement any departmental procedure manuals and procedures.
    • Create illustrations and animations for proposals, presentations and documents.
    • Create design modifications to existing hardware.
    • Perform basic analysis and make adjustments to drawings or specifications.
    • Create Manufacturing Instructions to plan and meet the requirements of the design.
    • Utilize MRP system to obtain material and parts to meet schedule.
    • Track progress of tools and fixtures from project proposal to hardware integration completion.

    Basic Requirements for a level 2:

    • B.S. Degree in STEM and or equivalent work experience and 2+ years’ experience in mechanical or electro/mechanical design/drafting
    • General knowledge of manufacturing practices and comprehensive working knowledge of ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.100-200 and MIL-DTL-31000
    • Experience in CAD systems; NX CAD, SolidWorks or CREO
    • Knowledge and experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
    • Knowledge and experience with a MRP system writing purchase orders and manufacturing orders
    • Good time management and prioritization in completing tasks on schedule and on budget

    Basic Requirements for a level 3:

    • B.S. Degree in STEM and or equivalent work experience and 5+ years’ experience mechanical or electro/mechanical design/drafting
    • Practical knowledge of manufacturing practices and comprehensive working knowledge of ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.100-200 and MIL-DTL-31000
    • Experience in CAD systems; NX CAD, SolidWorks or CREO
    • Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
    • Experience with a MRP system writing purchase orders and manufacturing orders
    • Excellent time management and prioritization in completing tasks on schedule and on budget

    Preferred Requirements

    • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering
    • Experience in aerospace structures and mechanisms

    This position reports to Goleta, CA, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Oxnard, CA, CA, USA.


    Salary Range: $95,000 USD - $142,400 USD
    Salary Range 2: $77,100 USD - $115,700 USD

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
