Strategic Space Systems Division has an opening for a Engineer - Thruster, to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Manhattan Beach, California

The position involves working in the Chemistry Laboratories section which performs rocket thruster testing to support spacecraft propulsion production for Northrop Grumman. The successful Engineer will be capable and comfortable working independently, collaboratively, and proactively. The successful candidate will have the skills to evaluate and apply engineering techniques to solve a broad range of rocket thruster testing challenges, both technical and production schedule driven. This individual must have effective communication and social skills, including the technical writing, and be able to interface with a variety of disciplines.  The successful candidate will be required to develop an internal customer base for the basis of their ongoing tasks. 

Essential Functions:

  • Capable of evaluating internal customer’s technical problems

  • Perform rocket thruster testing as needed

  • Develop and execute experimental rocket thruster test campaigns

  • Effectively communicate the results to their customer

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline plus 2 years of engineering experience OR Masters of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline plus 0 years of engineering experience

  • Possess technical hands-on hardware engineering skills

  • Data interpretation knowledge associated with rocket thruster testing

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret and/or SCI security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with hydrazine and/or monomethyl hydrazine rocket fuels and associated rocket thruster testing

  • LabVIEW experience

  • Rapid prototyping and machine tool experience

  • Active in-scope secret and/or SCI security clearance


Salary Range: $74,900 USD - $112,300 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
