Strategic Space Systems (SSSD) is seeking a qualified Production Area Section Manager (Manager 2) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in the Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) organization with the Module Assembly and Test Department. This position will be located in Manhattan Beach, CA.

The MA&T department handles all operations from kitting through final screens of complex microelectronic modules.  Processes include component attach using conductive/non-conductive epoxy, wire and ribbon bonding, eutectic mount, laser sealing, seam sealing, RF & DC Tune & Test, and MIL-STD-883 screens. 

The Production Area Section Manager is responsible for in-person direct supervision of Front-Line Managers, assembly technicians in our Automated Assembly Line processes, and support the manufacturing needs in the Module Assembly and Test Department in Manhattan Beach.  The Production Area Section Manager will be the main point of contact for managing assembly needs for MA&T Program managers and external customers.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Train, mentor, and motivate FLMs and technicians.

  • Lab POC for investigating, identifying, and resolving lab issues and understanding impact to production.

  • Ensure training and certifications are current for lab employees (ensure no single point failures by maintaining proficiency cross training between areas). Assist Department Manager and Process owners on the Point of Operation (POO) training for production area access.

  • Review LRAP (Labor Resource and Planning) and program requirements to ensure adequate resources (personnel, equipment, and consumable material) are available and trained prior to production needs.

  • Ensure process compliance, analyze defect, cost, and schedule metrics and implement continuous improvements.

  • Drive execution to meet product cost and schedule targets.

  • Manage equipment calibration and preventative maintenance schedules and ensure DFAR compliance.

  • Support identification of new equipment/aging equipment for capital forecasts


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of engineering experience OR master’s degree and 7 years of engineering experience OR a PhD. Degree and years of experience

  • 1 year of previous project or personnel management experience 

  • Must have U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain/maintain a government TS/SCI clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, engineering, or other STEM area 

  • Knowledge and experience implementing lean manufacturing concepts.

  • Proficiency in Solumina and Enovia

  • 7 or more years of manufacturing experience

  • Active TS/SCI clearance

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.


Salary Range: $147,800 USD - $221,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
