SSSD has an opening for a Semiconductor Microelectronics Engineer located at our Space Park facility located in Manhattan Beach, CA.

As the engineer you will have regular interactions with other process engineers, production supervisors, process technicians, and technology development (product) engineers.  You will be responsible for sustaining and optimizing processes in a high yielding III-V compound semiconductor fabrication facility and participate in cross-functional teams to develop new processes and technologies.

Essential Job Functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain (sustain) existing processes and tools which include trouble shooting issues & monitoring processes using statistical process control (SPC) methods; process optimization; and trouble-shoot process issues (Root cause investigations).

  • The following processes and equipment will be worked on: Thin wafer handling, wafer dicing, wafer thinning using grinding, polishing, or CMP methods, permanent & temporary wafer bonding; photolithography (contact aligners, projection steppers, automated coat & develop); semiconductor & metal wet etch; plating; photoresist strip & metal lift-off, metal deposition (sputter); ion implantation, wafer metrology (thin film measurement, wafer flatness, SEM, profilometers); and plasma processes (semiconductor dry etch).

  • Work in a team environment, using excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively interface with management and personnel from other areas, ability to multi-task, ability to succinctly document and/or summarize their work, and ability for independent thinking.

Basic Qualifications: 

A candidate must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

  • Be completing or has completed their Master's degree from an accredited institution
  • Be majoring in or having majored in Chemical Engineering, Physics, Materials Engineering, or Chemistry
  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher (unofficial academic transcripts must be provided at time of application by uploading the documents to your application or profile). 
  • Be able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.70/4.0 or higher

Pay Range: $85,00-$127,400

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
