Northrop Grumman Space Systems has an opening for an Engineer (Level 4 or Level 5) to join our Commodity Engineering Team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA. 

The Commodity Engineering Team (CET) is responsible for supply base management related to the acquisition of Space electronic, electrical and electromechanical hardware. This high visibility position requires a motivated, self-starter with an engineering and electronic component background with excellent interpersonal skills to respond to program customer product needs and concerns.  The candidate will require extensive technical understanding of one or more of the following areas: Hi-Rel electronic components, connectors, harnesses and associated fabrication processes, Printed Wire Board (PWB) fabrication and assembly processes, electronic subsystem assembly integration & test and failure analysis techniques.  Candidate will be expected to work effectively with Materials & Processes (M&P) and other Engineering organizations to help resolve supplier issues and provide successful execution of technical solutions for acquisition activities in support of Global Supply Chain.

Responsibilities also include performing product producibility reviews, technical evaluations of proposals and supporting the internal processes associated with program part/product selection, qualification and approval, supplier capability approvals, manage work transfers, as well as hardware failure analysis and investigations.  Candidate is expected to have the ability to work both independently and as a team player and must demonstrate the ability to multi-task and communicate effectively with varying levels of program customers and functional organization leadership.

Travel required up to 25%.

Basic Qualifications:

Level 4:

Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, or Mathematical) degree, with 9 years of experience in an Engineering or Manufacturing role; OR 7 years with a Master’s Degree in STEM; 4 years with a PhD

Level 5:

Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, or Mathematical) degree, with 14 years of experience in an Engineering or Manufacturing role; OR 12 years with a Master’s Degree in STEM; 9 years with a PhD

  • Demonstrated experience to formulate and execute technical solutions to electronic part, assembly, and process engineering challenges
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing engineering specifications, schematics and drawings with the ability to translate customer driven requirements into specifications
  • Demonstrated experience using SAP, Windows software packages, and other electronic databases
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Electronic Component/Commodity Engineering experience
  • Experience and understanding of standards for the production of high reliability connectors, cable/harnesses, and printed wiring board fabrication and assembly
  • Project Management experience
  • Knowledge of FAR & DFAR requirements
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001/AS9100 requirements
  • Active DoD secret or Top Secret clearance

Salary Range: $117,700 USD - $176,500 USD
Salary Range 2: $146,000 USD - $219,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
