Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Mission Operations Chief Engineer. The Chief Engineer is the responsible authority for program technical efforts.  The candidate will be responsible for the overall technical effort, leads design reviews, supports technical review boards, supports change boards, coordinates cross-contract technical efforts, and closes top issues for program management. The Chief Engineer reports to the program manager and coordinates with the integrated product team leads, customer, and external stakeholders.

 

The candidate is expected to be highly knowledgeable in the challenges, technologies, and solutions that address our space systems, ground systems, and mission operations.  The ideal candidate will have had previous direct experience in the development, integration, delivery, operations, and maintenance of the program.  Since programmatic aspects always come into play in the development and execution of technical solutions, it is important that the candidate have previous direct experience with cost, schedule, and technical baseline management through all program phases:  proposal, design, build, test, delivery, and operations.

 

Position has high visibility and requires excellent communication skills, proven leadership skills, the ability to multi-task and prioritize objectives to support critical efforts, and the technical aptitude to perform operations related analysis and technical decision making.  Regular collaboration with government and contractor stakeholders across diverse geographic locations and multiple contracts is required.

 

The program is based in Redondo Beach, CA, with required travel domestically and internationally.

 

Basic Qualifications:

-Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline with 20+ years of engineering experience OR Master’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline with 18+ years of engineering experience OR PhD Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline with 15+ years of engineering experience 

-Minimum 10 years of experience in Space Systems, Ground Systems, or Systems Engineering.

-Ability to effectively interface with program leadership, functional management, customers, and technical subject matter experts

-Experience leading multi-disciplinary technical teams

-Must have US Citizenship with active or current TS/SCI Clearance

 

Preferred Qualifications:

-Master’s Degree OR PhD in Engineering

-Domain expertise with spacecraft or space systems

-Experience in developing, managing, and decomposing requirements

-Strong People and Technical Leadership Skills

-Excellent communication skills (upward and downward)


Salary Range: $198,500 USD - $297,700 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
