Northrop Grumman, Strategic Space Systems Division, has an opening for a PM&P Section Manager to join our team of highly qualified and diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.

Job Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will manage the Non-Metallics, Coatings, and Platings section within the Parts, Materials, and Processes (PM&P) Department in Redondo Beach, CA.  The Section supports SSSD programs by evaluating, characterizing, qualifying, and selecting the materials and processes used to produce deliverable spaceflight hardware.  The Section develops fundamental material properties and allowables used in design and authors and maintains material, and manufacturing process specifications. In addition, members of the Section lead and support failure analyses for unplanned events including the determination of root cause and implementation of corrective action.

The Section Manager balances program technical demands for a majority of their time with people management.  Most of the time, the Section Manager performs as an independent contributor and supports programs by providing engineering support during proposal, design, qualification, manufacturing, integration, and test of payloads, and spacecraft.  For the balance of their time, the Section manager is focused on leadership including people management (direction & coaching), program/project reviews, coordination of job assignments, staffing, recruiting, developing IRAD and process improvement plans, lab operations, as well as developing capital and equipment plans.

The applicant will have a strong background in one or more of the following spacecraft technologies: thermal control materials, composites, adhesives, coatings, or metallic platings.  The applicant will also understand the effect of radiation on spacecraft materials.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline from an accredited university

  • Five (5) years of engineering experience in an aerospace environment

  • Demonstrated knowledge in parts, materials and process selection, thermal control coatings and/or metallic platings, manufacturing support, failure analysis, and processing of materials for space hardware

  • Proven leadership experience on projects and/or teams

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD or MS STEM degree from an accredited institution

  • Recognition within the broader organization as a Subject Matter Expert in composite structures, adhesives, thermal control coatings, or metallic platings

  • Familiarity with the integration and test of spacecraft

  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven leadership abilities

  • Demonstrations of excellent  communications  skills which include the ability to verbally articulate and to make effective presentations, and to prepare clear and concise written reports are desired

  • Active SCI and/or TS clearance


Salary Range: $134,600 USD - $201,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
