Senior Staff EMI/EME/EMC (E3) Systems Engineer

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Sr. Staff Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) Engineer (Level 6) to work in Rancho Bernardo, California or Palmdale, California. E3 Engineers ensure system compliance to electromagnetic environmental effects from individual components to the operational weapon system and all development activities in-between. The successful candidate will act as the technical liaison between internal and external organizations.

This position will be primarily focused on leading the planning and execution of E3 tasking and team on the Strike program.  Secondarily, this position will be requested to support other programs that may need consultation in the E3 domain, such as Triton, GH, Fire Scout, etc., as well as Community of Practice (CoP) activities as required. 

Essential Functions:

Decomposition of system level requirements for:

• Electromagnetic Environmental Effects:
• -    Lightning protection
• -    Tribo-electric charging (Precipitation-static (P-static), electrostatic discharge (ESD))
• -    Electromagnetic interference/compatibility (EMI/C, EMI, EMC)
• -    TEMPEST
• -    Radio Frequency (RF) cosite
• -    Electrical bonding

Application of high-level requirements documents to systems and subsystems:

• -    MIL-STD-461
• -    MIL-STD-464
• -    DO-160
• -    MIL-STD-883

Perform testing, data analysis, and reporting for in-house test activities

• -    Develop test software/hardware
• -    Develop and maintain test specifications, procedures and schedules

Witness subcontractor testing and ensure compliance to E3 requirements

Lead the evaluation of design drawings to verify and correct system design to E3 standards

Travel up to 25% will be required

Basic Qualifications:

• 14 Years with Bachelors in Science; 12 Years with Masters; 9 Years with PhD.
• Experience in RF, Test, or design engineering 
• The ability to obtain and maintain DoD Top Secret and special program access 
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Active in-scope DoD Top Secret Clearance
• Current Active Program PAR
• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (with a focus on RF, microwave, integrated circuits, photonics, or communication systems) or Bachelor's Degree in Physics
• Previous experience applying MIL-STD-461/ MIL-STD-464 requirements allocation, test procedure development, test execution, or test reporting for components or systems
• Proficiency in LabView and/or MATLAB
• Experience in any of the following: RF modeling tools such as FEKO, cosite analysis, low level EMP testing, shielding effectiveness testing, EMC Safety-of-flight testing
• Ability to obtain and maintain special program clearance

 

This position reports to San Diego, CA, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Palmdale, CA, CA, USA.

Salary Range: $178,700 USD - $268,100 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
