We are looking for you to join our team as a Principal or Sr Principal Technical Field Engineer Subject Matter Expert (SME) based out of San Diego, CA (Spectrum Center facilities).

What you’ll get to Do:

Have an opportunity to travel to sustained operational locations overseas and develop your technical expertise across the engineering spectrum. Be part of our field engineering team that operates and maintains complex tactical communication systems worldwide.

 As the Hardware SME for our Field Engineering team, you will be supporting operations and maintenance of complex tactical communications systems and data links providing voice and data services in a sustained operation located overseas and CONUS (continental U.S.).  This technical SME position will report directly to the Field Engineering Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team and develop technical expertise across the engineering spectrum.

While at the production facility:

  • Coordinating non routine maintenance and technical notices

  • Coordinating the Troubleshooting of OCONUS issues that require engineering assistance

  • Reviewing schematics and other engineering and maintenance process related documentation

  • Providing OCONUS operations technical expertise to factory engineering teams and the training department.

  • Tracking and advising the factory engineering team regarding the resolution of OCONUS discrepancies

  • Assisting Spectrum Software and Cyber engineering in development and delivery of software upgrades and service packs

  • Advising Systems engineering on the potential impacts of future design changes to OCONUS operations

  • Project Management installing and upgrading equipment in the field.

  • Will work closely with an Active Duty/Government customer as well as internal Northrop Grumman Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).

While on travel OCONUS (outside the continental U.S):

  • Work on a flight line configuring, maintaining and testing payloads

  • Troubleshoot Hardware/Software issues

  • Perform system and computer maintenance

  • Operate and control data links during operational missions

  • Perform Linux System Administration and Account Management

  • Perform network troubleshooting and monitor IP Network health and status

  • Perform as COMSEC Responsible Officer (CRO)

  • Perform as a Technical Lead of the OCONUS Tech Team

 

This position may be filled as a Principal or Sr Principal Technical Field Engineer.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Technical Field Engineer:

  • 7 years experience with an Associate's degree; 5 years with Bachelor's degree; 3 years with Master's; 9 years' overall experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree

  • Must pass a physical health assessment and meet the minimal standards of fitness in alignment with AFCENT requirements)

  • Must complete and pass any of the following certifications within 6 months of employment: (COMPTIA Security+, or Linux+, or CCNA )

  • Must have broad experience with the operation, configuration and maintenance of military communications systems and data links, IP networks and radios to include any the following: TCDL, PRC-117, PSC-5, ARC-210, SADL and Link 16 MIDS LVT

  • Must have knowledge of computers, radios, radio transmission fundamentals,  RF theory and A/C power distribution systems as well as commercial and military interface and networking standards to include RS-232, RS-422, 1553, TCP/IP and UDP

  • Active Secret Security (or above) Clearance with the investigation completed within the last 4 years

  •  Extended travel to hazardous overseas duty locations is required be available to travel 25-35% OCONUS

  • Must pass a physical health assessment and meet the minimal standards of fitness in alignment with AFCENT requirements)

  • Must complete and pass any of the following certifications within 6 months of employment: (COMPTIA Security+, or Linux+, or CCNA )

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completed COMPTIA Linux + and Security+ certification

  • Completed CCNA certification

  • Combination of in-depth Cisco based IP networks, system administration experience with Linux, Red Hat Virtualization Host (RHVH) Server and Windows 10 Professional

  • Candidate must Possess strong analytical and troubleshooting skills and the ability to read electrical drawings and schematics

  • Candidate should also have Experience with electrical soldering and mil-standard connectors

  •  experience on flight lines, working on aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) is a plus 


Salary Range: $86,300 USD - $129,500 USD
Salary Range 2: $107,000 USD - $160,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
