We are looking for you to join our team as a Fleet Support Project Lead Principal/Sr. Principal SEIT Lead based out of Sunnyvale, CA or Ocean Springs, MS. This role is part of the advanced development team that will be developing next generation technology and architecture for future platforms of marine machinery in nuclear navy engineer rooms. Our success is grounded in our ability to embrace change, move quickly and continuously drive innovation.  The successful candidate will be collaborative, open, transparent, and team-oriented with a focus on team empowerment & shared responsibility, flexibility, continuous learning, and a culture of automation.

What you’ll get to do:

The Fleet Support Project Lead Principal/Sr. Principal SEIT (Systems Engineering Integration and Test) Lead will lead a diverse engineering team and be responsible for the end-to-end technical execution, cost, schedule, and quality for hardware programs supporting the US Navy.  The role leads the in-house engineering efforts in support of our field service organization.  The role can be filled in Sunnyvale, CA or Ocean Springs, MS.  This position requires multi-discipline knowledge in all areas related to engineering including systems design, hardware, systems engineering, and integration and test.

The Fleet Support Project Lead Principal/Sr. Principal SEIT Lead will oversee engineering program planning and execution, create and deliver briefings to management, and providing overall leadership and coordination of a multi-disciplined Engineering team.  The position will be tasked with project leadership and cost account management responsibilities.

The Fleet Support Project Lead Principal/Sr. Principal SEIT Lead will interface with multiple disciplines including internal Executive Management, Program Management, Manufacturing, Global Supply Chain, Business Management, suppliers, and customers.

We are looking for you to join our team as a Fleet Support Project Lead Principal or Sr. Principal SEIT Lead based out of Sunnyvale, CA or Ocean Springs, MS.

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below:

Basic Qualifications for Principal:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 5 years relevant experience; or Master’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 3 years of relevant work experience; or a PhD in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 0 years relevant experience.
  • 4+ years’ experience as a technical project lead (e.g. IPT lead, functional lead, or equivalent).
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering processes with execution experience.
  • Experience summarizing and communicating status reports to technical leadership at a level higher than immediate management.
  • US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 9 years relevant experience; or Master’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 7 years of relevant work experience; or a PhD in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 4 years relevant experience.
  • 4+ years’ experience as a technical project lead (e.g. IPT lead, functional lead, or equivalent).
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering processes with execution experience.
  • Experience summarizing and communicating status reports to technical leadership at a level higher than immediate management.
  • US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Solid technical foundation in systems engineering with experience in multiple aspects of the systems engineering process, with an emphasis on early development phases including requirements analysis, trade studies, and proof of concept tests.
  • Experience in Program/Project management of hardware intensive programs including demonstrated knowledge of earned value management.
  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting engineering drawings. 
  • Experience with fielded Navy hardware.
  • Self-directed technical leader with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to act as a liaison to the customer for engineering efforts.
  • Prior military or government contract experience.

This position reports to Sunnyvale, CA, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Ocean Springs, MS, MS, USA.


Salary Range: $90,400 USD - $157,000 USD
Salary Range 2: $112,000 USD - $194,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
