Northrop Grumman Space Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Staff Network Field Engineer for the GMD team to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals located at Vandenburg AFB , California.

Position Overview:

In this role, you are responsible for oversight of all IFICS Data Terminal (IDT) maintenance scheduling, technical guidance for any anomalies, assisting with and coordinating site upgrades and other Contractor site maintenance with the facility.

Job Responsibilities:

  • You will be required to support daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance activities on the IDT and the GMD Communications Network (GCN) equipment, as well as on-call directed maintenance to effect repair of anomalous conditions.
  • Responsibilities will also include acting as site test conductor for test support activities, support on-console test support functions, perform asset cutovers in support of real-world and test events.
  • Manage internal as well as customer deliverables, assist building charts to brief leadership, interface with the customer supporting site operations and deconfliction of major events,
  • Candidate will be expected to support process development and improvement.
  • Collaboration and teambuilding across multiple program IPTs, sub-contractors, and extensive customer interface.
  • This position acts as local on-site representative to customers organization.

Additional Responsibilities include:

  • Act as site lead for small team
  • Interface with the MDA and Air force customers on site
  • Maintain GMD assets in a manner of system availability over 99% to the customer
  • Provides performance evaluation input for sub-contractor evaluations, property control, facility, safety, security and daily production and directs the work of employees assigned from technical, manufacturing and administrative areas related to the IDT and GCN equipment at both the IDT and GMM facility
  • Report all anomalies/ incidents IAW standard maintenance policy and procedures
  • Support customer site visits and provide briefings on upgrades and obsolescence issues.
  • Attend site and program specific meetings, develop slides, charts, and white papers for decision making as needed.
  • Support the Ground Systems (GS) products hardware / software integration, upgrades and repair requirements
  • Conduct software patching and anti-virus updates according to contract and SOW requirements
  • Travel will be required approximately 10% of time.

Basic Qualifications - To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical Engineering or related discipline with 14 years of related experience 12 Years’ Experience with a Master’s Degree or 9 Years’ Experience with a PhD. An additional 6 years of professional and related experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 4 years of leadership as a technical lead or related team leadership role or 2 years’ experience as a manager in a related discipline
  • Active Secret Security Clearance and ability to obtain COMSEC and Top Secret Clearance required.
  • Knowledge of local area networking (LAN) fundamentals with specific experience working with Ethernet routers, switches, and protocols in TCP-IP based communications system.
  • Strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and ability to work unsupervised and interface with a diverse group.
  • Solid fundamental skills and knowledge of Redhat, ESXi, UNIX, SNMP, HP OpenView, SolarWinds, Vsphere and VM applications.
  • Minimum current DODD approved 8570 (DOD 8140) Baseline Certification IAT Level II. (Security + ce preferred, but others that meet qualification will be accepted)
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of time as needed

Preferred Qualifications - Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • A degree in a computer science/computer networking related discipline highly desired
  • Extensive experience with SolarWinds, Vsphere, virtual machines and management servers
  • Experience with /understanding of KIV-19 A/M/Taclane operations
  • 2 years IFICS Data Terminal (IDT) hardware/software experience or attended IDT specific schooling
  • Experience with Redhat, Solaris, UNIX, ESXi and Windows, applications desired.
  • Experience with Defense Satellite Communications systems
  • Experience with building detailed charts and briefing slides
  • Process orientation and strong skills in using and following documented processes / checklists.
  • Willing to work flexible schedule to maintain operational capability.
  • Knowledge of military command, control, and communication systems.
  • Strong communications skills.
  • Knowledge of maintenance, logistics, and MMICS database desired.

Salary Range: $129,000 USD - $193,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
