Threat Products and Services is responsible for the development and delivery of high fidelity threat modeling products in support of MDA and MDA’s Missile Defense System. The Mission Support Threat Engineer role serves as a missile threat specialist, threat model developer, and threat model verifier and validator of threat representations across the kinematic, RF, and IR signature domains. This IR Hard Body specialized position requires a detail-oriented mid-level engineer responsible for capturing and documenting requirements as they pertain to the infrared signature representation of a missile as well as developing infrared hard body missile threat models for use in a variety of modeling and simulation tools/frameworks/media. Must have a good understanding of modeling and simulation methods and processes. Must be familiar with infrared signature concepts and physics behind hard body heating and how they affect infrared intensities. In order to support our mission, the IR Hard Body-focused Mission Support Threat Engineer will be involved in direct discussions and collaborations with our customers, threat stakeholders, intelligence analysts, and fellow engineers in order to best capture the requirements for developing and delivering accurate and relevant threat models. The selected individual must be able to work with little or no direct supervision, work as an integral member of a product delivery team, and meet time critical delivery schedules.

This role requires candidates to be onsite daily with no option for remote/hybrid work.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Level 3: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline, 5+ years related experience; 3+ Years with Masters; 0+ Years with PhD
  • Modeling, Simulation, and automation experience
  • Previous experience modeling or simulating signature profiles and responses in the IR signature and RF domains
  • Familiarity with the flight characteristics, motion, and performance of missile systems
  • Familiarity with hard body heating of objects and their corresponding signature representation
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work in a dynamic team environment
  • Must already possess an active DoD Secret clearance

Preferred Requirements:

  • Strong math, physics or engineering background is preferred
  • Previous experience with analyzing flight characteristics, motion, atmospheric dynamics, and missile performance parameters of ballistic missiles is highly desirable
  • Strong background in missile system engineering performance is highly desirable
  • Mastery of engineering modeling principles behind body motion, trajectory analysis, counter measures, debris, and signature modeling is a plus
  • Ability to obtain DoD Top Secret Clearance

This position reports to Schriever AFB, CO, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Colorado Springs, CO, CO, USA.


Salary Range: $95,100 USD - $142,700 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
