Adaptive Optics Associates – Xinetics (AOA Xinetics), a wholly-owned Northrop Grumman Space Systems (NGSP), Payload and Ground Systems Division Business Unit, is currently seeking a Product Engineer to support Special Programs activities in East Hartford, CT.

AOA Xinetics (AOX) designs, develops, and manufactures precision, advanced optical products and systems such as deformable mirrors, optical systems, adaptive optics control systems and silicon carbide optical structures for the U.S. Government, commercial customers, and U.S. defense prime and second-tier contractors. Overview

Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Product Engineer will perform manufacturing engineering support to the Special Programs team production; this includes sustaining engineering and new product transition from design engineering to the production team.

Role and Responsibilities:

The Product Engineer will be responsible for production support engineering with respect to testing methods, procedures, problem solving, electro-optic assembly specification and yield issues, minor redesign of assemblies, analysis of customer returns, and optimizing device production relative to cost constraints. They will assume responsibility for device transfer from engineering to production and usually responsible for supporting the entire device manufacturing operations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or other applicable degree; with two years related experience, or 0 years' experience with a Masters degree. Four years additional experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree

  • Experience with cable harness and electronics/PCBs testing

  • Detail oriented, with the desire for continuous improvement to the production environment, processes, and documentation

  • Experience assembling bills of materials and writing engineering change orders

  • Some experience working with a materials requirements planning (MRP) system

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Comfortable working well as part of an integrated team including technicians, engineering peers and principal level engineers

  • Ability to read mechanical drawing schematics and understand basic Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing

  • Absolutely must be a self-starter and able to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast paced, highly technical work environment

  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills

  • U.S. Citizenship is a bona fide requirement as applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation

  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Electrical Engineering Degree or Electrical Engineering Experience

  • Basic experience with SolidWorks or equivalent drawing package

  • Experience with alignment, assembly, bonding, and testing of precision opto-mechanical, fiber optic, micro-optic, and small mechanical components.

  • Master’s Degree and 2 plus years’ experience in related field

  • Active Top Secret Security Clearance

Physical Requirements:

  • Use of hand tools and manufacturing equipment

  • Occasional domestic travel up to 10% of the time

Salary Range: $77,100 USD - $115,700 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
