Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector has openings for Senior Staff Chief Engineers to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals on the E-2D Program in Melbourne, Florida.

Northrop Grumman is looking for Chief Engineers for the E-2 DSSC6 IPT, a sub-IPT within the Multi-Domain Command and Control (MDC2) of the Global Surveillance Division part of the Aeronautics Sector. The E-2 DSSC6 IPT is responsible for the development of the future cockpit and mission system integrated hardware and software release for the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye. These positions will report to the Engineering Director, DSSC6 Programs and to the Director, Programs, DSSC6. These Chief Engineers, working with Engineering Director, are the responsible technical authority for all design, development and testing, including subcontracted elements, for this critical to the US Navy program.

The CE maintains cognizance over technical activities within the assigned portion of the DSSC6 IPT and ensures the program is adhering to sound engineering processes in the development, production, test and sustainability of the mission system. The CE ensures the decisions on the configuration of the deliverable product and the technical approaches achieve expected system performance, enables long-term program sustainment, and meets technical requirements.

The CE provides guidance for all related technical activities is responsible for the integrity of the DSSC6 technical baseline and shall coordinate with the other E-2 advanced capability IPTs to ensure execution of the programs within an established cost and schedule baseline. The CE leads the configuration management, ensures detail design approaches follow Sector processes and procedures, ensures the top design/architecture approaches, and drives reuse of design concepts from across the Sector. The CE ensures a robust system engineering approach is executed for supporting the weapon system.


The successful applicant will have demonstrated knowledge and experience of aircraft systems including mission computing, communications , sensors, and air vehicle. In addition, leadership and communication skills are important to help drive issues to closure and provide clear insight to leadership. Experience and ability to work Agile concepts across multiple fields including software, and integration and test is required. Familiarity with tactical weapon system software development, avionics integration laboratories, flight test, and associated data analysis and reduction is required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline AND 14 years of experience on manned or unmanned aircraft systems, OR a Master’s degree in STEM AND 12 years of experience on manned or unmanned aircraft systems, OR a Ph.D. in STEM AND 9 years of experience on manned or unmanned aircraft systems.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge and experience of aircraft systems including air vehicle, mission computing, communications , and sensors.
  • Must have familiarity with leading large technical proposals and the ability to lead the customer through reviews of technical performance.
  • Must have an active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with International Direct Commercial Sales (DCS) and Foreign Military Sales (FMS)
  • Knowledge of ITAR, International Licensing Requirements and procedures
  • Experience with proving technical leadership to NGC and USG International Trade Compliance teams and technical support for the generation of International Export Marketing and Technical Licenses

Salary Range: $154,300 USD - $231,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
