The integration and test efforts associated with naval electronic system design are critical to the deployment of capable vessels in the service of our Navy and Coast Guard. Northrop Grumman Maritime Systems Integration and Ship Services business area is seeking a Principal / Sr Principal Systems Engineer to serve as the primary coordinator for the identification and prioritization of integration and test issues discovered in the course of land based and shipboard integration and test activities. This position will be located in Panama City, FL.

The candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels. The selected candidate will utilize Systems Engineering practices to provide support to the System Integration and Test team, The candidate will also be responsible for coordinating the assignment of actions and facilitating collaboration across the product/system design teams.  The candidate must aggressively pursue resolution of issues through collaboration with these teams. The work is to be performed in our customer’s land based integration and test facility and also onboard the ship through construction and trials. The work is dynamic and the candidate will be highly visible. Clear verbal and written communication skills will be necessary to effectively work with the systems design teams and shipyard staff.

Essential Functions:

- Act as cross-IPT systems engineering technical integrator between the System Integration and Test team and the product/system design teams.

- Identify and track to resolution, issues that arise in the course of integration and testing

- Decomposition of system requirements into test requirements and verification methodologies

- Support requirements allocation and interface definition support to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

- Lead the Engineering Review Board (ERB), responsible for identifying and tracking integration and test issues

- Participate in Technical Review Boards (TRBs), Configuration Control Boards (CCBs) and other program reviews and boards, as required

- Communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings at technical and program reviews and boards.  

- Applies extensive technical expertise in the development of technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.  

- Provide cross-IPT support for Capture efforts, SOW/SDRL/CDRL, and trade studies as required

- Work closely with peers and managers of other engineering disciplines, program managers, and IPT leads

This position can be filled at a level 3 OR 4

Basic Qualifications:

- The basic qualifications for the Principal Systems Engineer are a Bachelor's Degree in Science, -Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 5 years professional/military experience to include a background in systems engineering OR Masters Degree in STEM discipline with 3 years professional/military experience to include a background in systems engineering

- The basic qualifications for the Sr Principal Systems Engineer are a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 9 years professional/military experience to include a background in systems engineering OR Masters Degree in STEM discipline with 7 years professional/military experience to include a background in systems engineering

- Must be able to effectively communicate with engineers and management from multiple disciplines

- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

- Must adhere to Program security requirements while performing work

- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications: 

- Degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical (or any sub-discipline)

- Applied knowledge of shipboard electronic system design
- Experience in the military naval development and integration environment is preferred

- Strong understanding of common Systems Engineering processes

- Applies wide-ranging technical expertise and has knowledge of other related disciplines.

- Able to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings

- Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse, multi-disciplinary team environment.

- Ability to interface with all levels of the workforce and management. 

- Develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and guides the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project leadership role.  

- Proven experience with team engagement experience in a leadership/Team

- Perform work with no appreciable direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment

- Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project.

- Proficiency using the Atlassian toolset, including Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket

Salary Range: $87,600 USD - $131,400 USD

Salary Range 2: $108,600 USD - $163,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
