Northrop Grumman Payload and Ground Systems has openings for an electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility engineer (EMI/EMC) subject matter expert to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be hired as a Senior (Sr.) Principal Engineer Electronics. This position will be located in Rolling Meadows, Illinois.

The selected candidate will serve as an EMI/EMC domain expert directing EMI/EMC test and analysis efforts on an array of space systems programs.  A primary assignment will focus on the defection and execution of EMI tests of spacecraft systems.  The new member of the team will participate in the definition, analysis, and test verification of EMI/EMC requirements for current and future space vehicle components; analyses of electrical circuits for EMC, including grounding and shielding assessments; and the execution of electric and magnetic field measurements.

Job responsibilities, depending on the individual’s experience, will include:

  • Support EMI/EMC testing in a laboratory setting using and understanding the variety of EMI, RF, and electronics test equipment typically used in these types of tests

  • Investigating EMC test discrepancies and anomalies, and performing failure investigations of electronic, communications , and RF system components and subsystems

  • Troubleshoot EMI issues from board to system level, providing practical, workable solutions for flight projects

  • Participating in design reviews, customer acceptance reviews, test readiness reviews, and other program reviews

  • Analyzing and interpreting circuit schematics, PCB layouts, engineering drawings, bills of material, cable harnesses, wiring schematics, interface diagrams, layout drawings, and mechanical drawings

  • Performing data reduction of complex electromagnetic and radio frequency (RF) analyses and signal integrity assessments

  • Evaluating the EMI performance of electrical and electronic systems

  • Ensure designs meet EMI/EMC requirements

 

Sign-on bonus for available for eligible candidates who possess an ACTIVE TS/SCI clearance, and an additional sign-on bonus for eligible candidates who possess an active Polygraph.

Basic Qualifications:

  • For Sr. Principal Systems Engineer, BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) degree with 9+ years (of MS with 7+ years; or PhD with 4+ years) related experience

  • Minimum of 9 years of EMI/EMC requirements, analysis, design, and test experience involving circuits, electromagnetic field theory, Maxwell’s equations, radio frequency (RF) design, cable shielding, magnetics, antennas, and filters.  Experience exceeding the minimum is valued

  • Knowledge of performing EMI/EMC tests such as conducted susceptibility (CS), conducted emissions (CE), radiated susceptibility (RS), and radiated emissions (RE)

  • Previous work experience with MIL-STD-461 or similar standards

  • Able and willing to teach and mentor others in your area of specialty, especially project personnel who may not be EMI/EMC experts

  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work in an integrated product team (IPT) environment

  • Must be flexible, open to new challenges in a dynamic environment, and possess strong technical expertise combined with strong verbal and written communication skills 

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with little supervision

  • Must be a highly responsible, team-oriented individual with strong work ethic

  • Active or Current Top Secret Clearance is required to be considered

  • Must have ability to obtain SCI level accesses


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math)

  • Excellent decision making and communication skills both verbal and written

  • Advanced experience with EMI/EMC testing and analysis of space systems programs

  • Experience with interfacing with client and presenting technical data to the client

  • Agile development experience a plus

  • Ability and willingness to travel

  • Active Top Secret Clearance with SCI & polygraph is preferred

This position reports to Rolling Meadows, IL, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Rolling Meadows, IL, IL, USA.


Salary Range: $123,800 USD - $185,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
