We are looking for you to join our team as an Electrical Engineer based out of Annapolis, MD. What You'll Get to Do:

We are seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer to join a dedicated, engaged, and collaborative hardware engineering team supporting various undersea vehicles and systems. The Electrical Engineer will support a broad range of design activities including defining requirements, completing trade studies, developing engineering documentation and test plans, and performing hardware test and system integration. We are specifically looking for candidates that have experience with fiber-optic cabling-based system design.

The following knowledge/experience is required:

  • Knowledge of relevant fiber-optic cabling design and communication standards
  • Experience with fiber-optic cabling, connector, and penetration selection
  • Experience with design of traditional copper cables and connector selection
  • Well-versed in testing and/or troubleshooting of fiber optic systems
  • Experience with optical instrumentation, such as optical spectrum analyzers, laser sources and power meters
  • Understanding of fiber optic transmission, communication theory, advanced optical signal coding and modulation formats, and network architecture

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Cabling and connector design including fiber-optic communication system design
  • Generating formal engineering documentation (drawings, procedures, etc.)
  • Hands-on testing and troubleshooting
  • Able to apply extensive technical expertise, yet have knowledge of other related disciplines
  • Able to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings

**This position can be filled at the Principal or Sr. Principal level.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Electrical Engineer:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 5 years of experience, a Master's degree with 3 years of experience, or a PhD in a related field.
  • Experience in fiber-optic cabling design
  • Experience with fiber-optic cabling, connector, and penetration selection
  • Experience testing and/or troubleshooting of fiber optic systems
  • Knowledge of Zuken E3
  • Eligibility to obtain a Secret clearance

Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 9 years of experience, a Master's degree with 7 years of experience, or 4 years with a PhD in a related field.
  • Experience in fiber-optic cabling design
  • Experience with fiber-optic cabling, connector, and penetration selection
  • Experience testing and/or troubleshooting of fiber optic systems
  • Knowledge of Zuken E3
  • Eligibility to obtain a Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical writing skills, to include procedures and technical manuals
  • Strong familiarity with underwater systems, including cabling and connector interfaces
  • Professional background on systems deployed on Naval platforms
  • Knowledge of LabView and MATLAB
  • Active or Current DoD Secret clearance

Salary Range: $99,800 USD - $149,800 USD
Salary Range 2: $123,800 USD - $185,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
