The Naval & Oceanic Systems business unit headquartered in Annapolis, MD is seeking dependable individuals willing to work in a collaborative environment and that are interested in expanding their horizons. The Mechanical Engineering Department is seeking a Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer / Senior Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer with a hydraulics system design background, preferably in the underwater environment, to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.

Essential Functions:

Perform systems analysis, concept development, and detailed design of complex, advanced undersea systems with emphasis on hydraulic/fluid power system design, including loads evaluation, hydraulic plant sizing, piping calculations and design, dynamic system response, specifying hydraulic system components, and system integration and test.  The successful candidate will be expected to provide technical leadership to their programs in all areas of hydraulic/fluid power system design.

The candidate must be able to collaborate in a team environment, prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish the project result, prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplishing them simultaneously, and comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer:

  • 5 Years of relevant experience in the design, testing and/or operation of hydraulic system with Bachelors in Science in Mechanical Engineering or STEM equivalent; 3 Years with Masters; 0Years with PhD.
  • Proficiency in the design and analysis of hydraulic/fluid power systems
  • Proficiency in using common engineering design, production, analysis, and office tools
  • US citizen and possess an active Secret clearance to start with the ability and willingness to obtain a TS/SCI and pass a polygraph.

Basic Qualifications for a Senior Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer:

  • 9 Years of relevant experience in the design, testing and/or operation of hydraulic system with Bachelors in Science in Mechanical Engineering or STEM equivalent; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD.
  • Proficiency in the design and analysis of hydraulic/fluid power systems
  • Proficiency in using common engineering design, production, analysis, and office tools
  • US citizen and have the ability to obtain a Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated skills/experience in the design, testing and/or operation of hydraulic/fluid power systems in an underwater environment in submersibles or work systems and a deep familiarity with the components tailored for that application
  • Proficiency in piping design, analysis, and layout in accordance with the U.S. Navy Piping Manual and other U.S. Navy standards
  • Skilled in the use of Simulink, MatLab, and NX
  • US citizen and possess an active Secret clearance to start with the ability and willingness to obtain a TS/SCI and pass a polygraph

Salary Range: $99,800 USD - $149,800 USD
Salary Range 2: $123,800 USD - $185,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
