Manager 1 – HSIO Early Career Functional Manager (Space/Satellite Systems)

The selected manager will be the central point of contact for interns and early-career staff in the Integrated Operations (IOPS) Directorate with staff located across our various operating locations.  They will be responsible for managing early-career technical personnel assigned to the Human Spaceflight Integration and Operations (HSI&O) Department, as well as ensuring appropriate training and support to these team members who support various human spaceflight programs.  This includes all aspects of staff management, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, coaching/mentoring assignments, career development, performance management, compensation management and separation of assigned employees.  The manager will also design and run the intern program for selected students that will support human spaceflight programs.  In addition, the candidate will be an Operator or Technical leader on programs in the Civil & Commercial Satellites business area; the split between direct (programs) and indirect (functional) is approximately 80% / 20% respectively.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Coordinates across IOPS management and HSI&O programs to provide early career development and workforce planning
• Performs employee performance evaluations and salary reviews, working with established processes
• Provides inputs associated with capital, overhead, and direct program budgets
• Works with University
• Ensures employee training compliance with IOPS standards and practices, facilitating general operational knowledge and skill building for integration across division programs
• Provides high level technical oversight of early phase program and operational developments
• Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule and cost constraints. 
• Establishes criteria for employee progression beyond early career functional group
• Must be willing to travel (10-25%)
• Must be willing to support occasional shift work (e.g. nights/weekends/holidays) in support of on-orbit operations

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in related STEM field
• 5+ years of related experience
• 1-2 years' experience leading, supporting and conducting active on-orbit operations  
• U.S. citizen
• Strong experience in mission ops development and spaceflight operations
• Experience developing operations documentation (e.g. procedures, plans, handbooks) is required
• Experience participating in launch/mission rehearsals is required

Preferred Qualifications:

• Masters Degree in technical field is preferred but not required.
• Previous experience leading people is preferred but not required.
• Previous experience with project schedules and budgeting is preferred but not required.
• Previous experience with Launch & Early Orbit Operations or Cargo Engineering is preferred but not required.
• Experience interfacing with NASA flight operations personnel is preferred but not required.
• Experience planning launch/mission rehearsals is preferred but not required.

This position reports to Houston, TX, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Dulles, VA, VA, USA.

Salary Range: $119,600 USD - $179,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
