Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (AS) is seeking a Sr. Principal /Staff Operations Program Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals at our Clearfield, UT campus.

The Operations Program Engineer (OPE) will be the point-of-contact between Manufacturing, Support, and the Program Management organization on assigned programs or projects for the purpose of ensuring processes are ready to support Manufacturing needs.  In addition to the Manufacturing and Program Management groups, the OPE will work heavily with Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Business Management, Tooling, and Global Supply Chain.

What You'll Get to Do:

  • Function as an interface between Manufacturing and functional groups and provide leadership through build and delivery to achieve customer, program, and company objectives.
  • Ensure documented Manufacturing and Support processes are robust enough to support current and future program needs. This could include:
    • Manpower and capacity planning
    • Build status
    • Schedule/Cost performance
    • Communication of Quality/technical issues
    • Relationship management
    • Communication of Procurement status
    • Continuous improvement strategy and implementation
  • Assist in reporting program cost, schedule, technical and quality performance.
  • Assist in managing resource loading of the manufacturing area, which includes establishing schedules that are in line with organizational capacities.
  • Assist in establishing and communicating team objectives and goals to ensure common direction.
  • Work to develop better methods/models to manage labor resources and improve forecasting accuracy.
  • Work to develop better metrics and visibility in reporting of program cost, schedule, and quality.
  • Assist in estimating the Operations content in proposals to secure new business and ensure the accuracy, feasibility and affordability of pricing data that is being presented to customers.
  • May require travel up to 25% of time.

This successful candidate will have strong technical skills, as this position interfaces heavily with Manufacturing and Engineering and works technical issues. In addition, the candidate will have the ability and desire to be a leader and change agent, and drive improvement into our processes. He/she will need to have a solid technical background to effectively communicate with the engineering, assembly, and support team members.

This position may be filled as either a Sr. Principal Operations Program Engineer or a Staff Operations Program Engineer.

Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal Operations Program Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering discipline or related technical degree plus 9 years of relevant experience or Master of Science degree in an Engineering discipline or related technical degree plus 7 years of experience.
  • Experience working in an airframe manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading a team of individuals (manager, lead, project lead)
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Ability to provide direction to determine priorities to achieve goals.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze data and figures.
  • Ability to comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions.
  • Active, in-scope Secret clearance and ability to acquire required Program Access.

Basic Qualifications for a Staff Operations Program Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering discipline or related technical degree plus 14 years of relevant experience or Master of Science degree in an Engineering discipline or related technical degree plus 12 years of experience.
  • Experience working in an airframe manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading a team of individuals (manager, lead, project lead)
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Ability to provide direction to determine priorities to achieve goals.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze data and figures.
  • Ability to comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions.
  • Active, in-scope Secret clearance and ability to acquire required Program Access.

Preferred Qualifications for both levels:

  • Bachelor of Science degree Industrial or Mechanical, or Systems Engineering
  • Master’s degree in an Engineering Discipline
  • Supplier management experience
  • Production Planning knowledge
  • Customer interface skills
  • Experience with EVMS or clear understanding of Earned Value (EV)

Salary Range: $101,600 USD - $152,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $126,100 USD - $189,100 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
