Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking an Industrial Engineering Manager 2. This leadership role is located in Roy, Utah. Learn more about the Sentinel (GBSD) program here

What You Will Get To Do: 

The Industrial Engineering Manager 2 will support sites the Northern Utah area in support of the Command and Launch and Infrastructure teams on the Sentinel Program. The Industrial Engineer will support and lead the deployment and execution planning efforts across the different EMD sites. Experience in high-rate production, crew sizing for optimization, analyzing and developing sequence of operations, improving work flow for efficiencies, and methods for maximum utilization of personnel and facilities. Possess knowledge and understanding of master production scheduling, material requirements planning, and manufacturing business systems.

Responsibilities/Skills Requirements:

  • Provide leadership to the Industrial Engineering team.

  • Drive strategic initiatives and tactical actions that deliver results to improve program cost and schedule performance. Ensure program milestones and performance goals are achieved.

  • Guide executive level decision-making on how to effectively increase assembly rate in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

  • Deliver on short-term, high visibility program requests, while creating a vision and executing a long-term strategy to influence change within and outside the organization.

  • Coordinate the development and maintenance of manufacturing schedules and plans to ensure adequate labor, facilities, equipment, tooling, and materials are available on time to ensure customer requirements are met. 

  • Analyzes and designs value stream, including capability, capacity, throughput, work flow and logistics. Drive actions towards continuous improvement and affordability targets.

  •  Coach, mentor, and develop team of industrial engineers by assigning meaningful tasks, providing frequent feedback, and rewarding positive performance. Build trust within the organization and align team towards a clear set of impactful goals.

  • Administer to Industrial Engineering employees, including performance reviews, merit increases, promotions, skills inventory and personal resources.

  • Strong foundation in Industrial Engineering fundamentals 

  • Proficient in the principles of capacity (efficiencies, standards, constraints, etc)

  • Experience with project and manufacturing schedules

  • Understanding of schedule waterfall build with setbacks to independent demands

  • Part of the responsibility can include factory and facility layout

  • Experience with cost management (Earned Value, Milestone payments)

  • Engage and collaborate with programs and functional organizations (from individual contributors to executive staff) to obtain, understand, and interpret manufacturing facilitation and scheduling requirements

  • Possess strong leadership, organizational, planning and decision making skills and the ability to work as a team member and with other members from different technical backgrounds

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.  


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 6 years' experience in Industrial Engineering, or related experience OR a master’s degree with 4 years' experience in Industrial Engineering, or related experience

  • At least 1 year of experience leading teams and/or projects

  • Must have U.S. Citizenship

  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance to start


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years of shop floor operations support experience

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in a STEM field

  • ICBM / Aerospace Systems Industry Experience

  • Experience with Lean/Six-Sigma (Value Stream Mapping, DMAIC, Cause & Effect; etc.), leading continuous improvement projects is plus (i.e., Kaizen)

  • Capable of preparing documents and presenting for all levels of management experience

  • Industrial Engineering experience / Industrial Engineering Degree

  • Experience/certifications in lean/process improvement

  • SAP/MES Expertise, Tableau experience

  • Strong expertise using the full suite of Microsoft Office Tools

  • Experience providing innovative techniques focused on improving product designs and processes utilizing analytic model


Salary Range: $105,600 USD - $158,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
