Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Software Engineering Manager 1. This position will be located in Roy, Utah and will support the Sentinel (GBSD) program. Some travel may be required to Promontory, Utah; Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Vandenberg SFB, California. Candidate will be a manager supporting a test automation team as part of the Integration Assembly Test and Checkout (IATC) element of the Command and Launch (C&L) segment. This position is a dual-hat role involving both technical leadership as a senior contributing engineer as well as functional management of directly reporting engineers.

As a senior engineer, the Software Manager will develop automation and lab-support software in a dynamic environment using the Agile (Scrum) framework and will be expected to provide technical mentorship. Experience with software development in an integration and test environment is required. Experience with code packaging and configuration management is strongly encouraged, as well as experience with implementing industry standard continuous delivery processes, techniques, and tools (including GitLab). Experience with databases and data logging concepts suggested.

As a manager, the Software Manager will be expected to develop and mentor a team of engineers. The Software Manager will perform all functional management duties for their direct reports, including career development/opportunity management, goal setting, promotion planning, execution of the annual performance review process, and providing regular performance feedback. The Software Manager can expect to spend 20-30% of their time on manager-related activities.

What you will get to do:
•    Lead a diverse team of engineers whose primary focus will be on automation to remove the “human in the loop” to improve schedule, reduce costs, and remove human error.
•    Maintain software development discipline, following all Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS), C&L, and IATC policies and procedures
•    Develop procedures and Concept of Operations (CONOPS) documents for the automation team
•    Implement systems for maintaining tools developed by the team throughout their lifecycle, including bug reporting and configuration management
•    Identify and pursue opportunities to provide automation services to elements outside IATC and opportunities to spread the utilization of tools developed by the automation team within Northrop Grumman and with the United States Air Force customer.
•    Develop labor cost estimates and preliminary project schedules.
•    Interface with internal and external customers
•    Support site and flight test for Segment-level requirements
•    Responsible for the strategic implementation of skills and labor mix; employee development; mentoring; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures; and supporting career path goal planning and development.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:
•    Associates Degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience or 4 additional years of experience in lieu of a degree to equal 9 years of relevant experience
•    Active DoD Secret clearance with a reinvestigation date occurring in the last 5 years and ability to obtain approval for special access programs
•    At least one year experience leading projects or cross-functional teams
•    At least one year of experience in test planning and test execution, or automation development
•  1 year of experience in Object Oriented Programming, examples are Java, C++, C#, and Python
 

Preferred Qualifications:
•    US Citizenship with an Active Top Secret Clearance (awarded within the past 5 years)
•    Understanding of Agile and Scrum principles and Model Based Systems Engineering

•    Understanding of computer networking principles

•    Experience with Atlassian tool suite
•    Experience in automation development
•    Experience in Integration and Test
•    Scrum Master or Product Owner experience
•    Experience with JavaScript (specifically the React library), JAZZ, GitLab, WireShark, LabView, and/or MATLAB.
•    Experience with front and back-end web development
•    CAM and EVMS training
•    Project Management, risk and opportunities, and scheduling background
•    Experience with embedded systems
•    Experience with hardware/software interface design
•    Experience with software and hardware certification/accreditation

Salary Range: $106,400 USD - $159,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
