Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Manager of Interface Designers.  This position will be located in Roy, Utah and will support the Sentinel (GBSD) program.  This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.  

This position is in our Strategic Deterrent Systems Division to execute the Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase of the Sentinel Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program in support of the United States Air Force.  The Manager of Interface Designers will work within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment, interfacing with IPT leadership, suppliers, customers, and other technical disciplines to engineer design solutions to challenging problems through the management and development of Interface Design Description (IDD) products. Estimate of 50% Technical, 30 % CAM & 20% functional management activities.

What You’ll Get To Do:   

  • Report status, blockers, and accomplishments to the System Interface Design manager
  • Responsible for daily operations of a team or work unit (direct supervision of the staff, assignment of work, schedules, day to day workflow, and operating costs).
  • Manage cost, schedule, and technical performance of the interface designer engineers ensuring on-time and on-cost deliveries
  • Manage workloads and tasking for the interface design team members and make decisions relating to accomplishments of daily work responsibilities
  • Ensure team members have the required tools and access to perform design engineering responsibilities
  • Perform semi-annual performance assessments with your team members
  • Assist team members with career development
  • Collaborate with other engineering managers to align priorities and support overall execution of program objectives
  • Regularly provide highlights of accomplishments and help needed to leadership
  • Actively assists or provides direction to subordinates as required

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.    


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ degree in an Engineering, Physics or related field and 5 years minimum experience; 3 years of experience with a Masters' degree; 0 years of experience with a PhD
  • U.S. Citizenship and an ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance or higher 
  • Able to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
  • Must be able to work independently, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction
  • 2 years of experience in any combination of Systems Engineering, Integration and Test, or Design engineering disciplines.
  • 1 year of experience leading projects or cross-functional teams
  • 1 year of experience in Program Execution, Staffing, Engineering Metrics and Training resources, Processes, and Tools.
  • 1 year of experience in interface design
  • Proven experience with engineering drawing development and configuration management

  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active DoD Secret clearance and the ability to be granted a Top-Secret clearance.
  • ICBM experience
  • Experience in design and fabrication techniques for structural details, assemblies, and installations
  • Experience in performing in an Agile environment and knowledge/understanding of JIRA
  • Familiarity with the ASME Y14.x suite of engineering drawing standards
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience
  • Knowledge/proficiency of design tools including TeamCenter/NX
  • Experience in People and Technical Leadership roles.
  • Earned Value certification


Salary Range: $106,400 USD - $159,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
