Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Chief Engineer (CE) to serve as the technical leader for the various NC3 programs. The CE will be the lead Engineering representative for various NC3 programs and initiatives within the Division and across sectors and is responsible for providing technical oversight and team leadership for the development of complex military C3 systems involving NC3.  This position is located in Roy, Utah.  This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

The candidate is expected to have a broad technical background and a proven record of success leading both small, and large, multi-disciplined engineering teams in the development and implementation of military C3 systems.  Experience with rapid prototyping as well as formal test and qualification efforts for C3 systems is highly desired.  The candidate is further expected to lead engineering development teams in both laboratory and field environments.

What You’ll Get To Do

  • Collaborate with the cross-sector team, Division and Senior Management to define technical roadmaps, assist with Business Development, Capture, and Project Execution efforts related to various programs
  • Organize project engineering staff as required, tracking progress through regular staff meetings, and report status to the NC3 Campaign lead and division engineering leadership
  • Direct interface with existing and potential customers is expected
  • Support on and off-site project developments, demonstrations, and customer exercises as required

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.   

Job Qualifications

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 20+ years of experience with Bachelor's degree, 18+ years of experience with Master's degree, 15+ Years with PhD.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active DoD Top Secret clearance with investigation within the last 6 years or in Continuous Evaluation (CE)
  • Practical experience and a thorough understanding of Data Links, message formats, RF systems, classified cloud, complex/secure/assured network architectures, cyber resilient solutions, and global C3 systems.
  • Extensive technical background in one or more aspects of digital engineering (e.g., use of DOORS, use of architecture tools such as “System Architect,” “Rhapsody,” or “Magic Draw”)
  • Demonstrated experience in generating technical solutions in the absence of complete customer requirements
  • Experience developing product technical roadmaps
  • Strong understanding and broad application of engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, review boards, process control, software, hardware, networking, testing, Dev*Ops, Open Mission Systems (OMS), etc.)
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Experience with integration of complex Space, Air, Ground, Sea, Undersea and Cyber-protected networked systems
  • Experience leading both small- and large-scale product development teams on complex systems.
  • Experience with Rapid Prototyping/Rapid Fielding (Middle Tier) Acquisition programs
  • Experience managing requirements of large, complex systems.
  • Experience managing multiple high-priority projects simultaneously
  • Ability to effectively work and coordinate within a geographically dispersed team
  • Writing and verbal communication and presentation skills to effectively provide status to internal executive management and customers
  • Experience assisting with business definition, strategy and capture efforts
  • Experience working with functional management organizations to improve process efficiencies across engineering disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience with problem solving, problem investigation teams and critical decision making skills
  • SCI or SCI-eligible


Salary Range: $171,400 USD - $257,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
