Northrop Grumman Space Systems has an opening for an Engineering Manager 2. This position will be located in Roy, Utah and will support the SDS Functional Homeroom.

What You’ll Get To Do: 

This position is a dual-hat position requiring the candidate to perform functional management activities as well as program responsibilities. It is expected that the Functional management role will comprise up to 20% of the candidate's time. The candidate will have 80% technical responsibilities: supporting SDS programs as an engineer within their same function.  Candidate will act across multiple organizations to drive execution.

As a Functional Manager, you will be required to provide a wide range of people leadership and mentoring activities, and foster a culture that allows employees to learn and grow. You will facilitate and execute the performance management cycle for your direct reports. This includes setting goals, mid and end-of-year reviews as well as performance evaluations and compensation. This role will also require you to mentor your direct reports and be their first line of contact for career growth, training and certifications funding, stretch assignments, etc.

Essential Functions:

  • Promotes the professional development of the Homeroom workforce and fosters a collaborative culture that sustains the momentum around employee engagement and inclusion, affordability, innovation, value growth, and continuous improvement.
  • Manages and guides direct report annual goals, performance evaluations and compensations reviews.
  • Ensures accurate time charging and timecard approvals.
  • Manages conflict resolution, performance issues and improvement plans.
  • Mentors career growth for team of direct reports.
  • Aligns direct reports to technical roles based on program needs.
  • Helps identify stretch assignments and opportunities - Works as the integration lead for all elements across the weapon system that interact with LGC Specific Hardware.

As a Technical Manager, you will be required to work and directly interface with DoD customers on technical program elements and lead technical teams in solving weapon system maintenance actions as well has help solve complex electrical and software issues related to Codes systems and their constituent subcomponents.  You will participate in Ground Systems Aging Surveillance and/or Age Sensitive Items Analysis panels.  You will be required to establish and manage subcontractor efforts, which include support in generating RFPs and then managing a subcontractor’s cost, schedule and technical performance elements. 

This position aligns to a Matrixed Engineering and Manufacturing Operations organization (SDS E&MO Homeroom)

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.   

Job Qualifications: 

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) and a minimum of 6 years of related experience
  • Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance with an investigation date within the last 6 years.
  • 1+ years’ experience leading a project and/or driving performance against schedule
  • 1+ years’ of experience working and directly interfacing with DoD customers on technical program elements and leading technical teams in solving weapon system maintenance actions
  • 1+ years’ of experience MM III ICBM Codes system hardware, software and interfacing systems - including a basic familiarity of the broader Air Force Codes organization with codes system hardware, software and interfacing systems.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Experience with participation in Ground Systems Aging Surveillance and/or Age Sensitive Items Analysis panels
  • Experience in assessing weapon system failure data, trend analysis and working with broader reliability organizations in assessing subsystem end-of-life analyses
  • Experience with Program Management functions such as establishing and managing subcontractor efforts, which include support in generating RFPs and then managing a subcontractor’s cost, schedule and technical performance elements

Salary Range: $116,200 USD - $174,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
