Designs major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, models, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposals. Investigates pertinent design factors such as: ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. Coordinates with other organizations that are affected by the design development. Creates layouts, models and engineering drawings of complex electro-mechanical assemblies, detail parts, devices, mechanisms, and structures using parametric modeling software and various computer aided design (CAD) tools and software. Checks completed layouts, models and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD
  • Have a strong working knowledge of ASME Y14.100 principles and practices
  • Have strong working experience using Siemens NX (Unigraphics) version 7.5 or higher CAD software
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment
  • Experience preparing engineering bills of materials
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplish them simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Familiar with Microsoft operating systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiar with using Siemens NX in a Teamcenter environment
  • Familiar with AutoCAD version 2010 or higher
  • Familiar with SolidWorks
  • Familiar with Zuken E3
  • Familiar with Adobe Acrobat Professional
  • Experience with Department of Defense programs
  • Familiar with Information System for Engineering (ISE)
  • Familiar with ASME Y14.5-2009
  • Have experience preparing technical data packages per MIL-STD-31000
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as strong customer interaction skills with engineers of all levels within own discipline
  • Must be able to communicate effectively through various means
  • Must be able to assist in developing technical solutions to semi-complex problems through use of ingenuity and creativity with moderate supervision
  • Must be a self-starter and possess the ability to work autonomously while establishing schedule and priority needs
  • Must be proactive not only within their own discipline, but be able to apply those qualities to other similar/complementary disciplines with minimal supervision

Salary Range: $81,000 USD - $123,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
