Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector, Tactical Space Division in Dulles, VA, seeks a qualified and experienced Lead Systems Engineer.

Successful candidates for this position will work in a lead technical role for the Foxhound space program in the National Security Space business area within the Space Systems Sector. This Systems Engineering role is responsible for leading the Systems Engineering technical team, which includes the following duties: systems analysis, coordinating Vehicle Systems Engineering activities, engineering baseline management, interface management, requirements/V&V management, subcontractor technical oversight, preparing/presenting SE material at all major reviews and PMRs, interfacing with the customer and SETAs on all space segment technical issues, leading trade studies, defining the mission element design, and translating mission requirements into hardware and software specifications and implementation. The Lead Systems Engineer will also serve as the Spacecraft Bus Lead, which is responsible for leadership and oversight of a multi-discipline team of subsystem leads through the design, development, integration, and test of the spacecraft bus.

   

The responsibilities include both individual-contributor and leadership roles, within a multi-disciplined engineering team. Successful candidate will also be called upon to support other activities, including architecture studies, mission support, and traditional Systems Engineering functions. In this lead role, the Lead Systems Engineer is expected to be self-directed using previous experience to lead design, analysis and execution efforts. Candidates must be able to recognize and mitigate technical issues and risks while operating within budget and on schedule.

   

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead/Provide major support to the entire Foxhound technical team

  • Lead and optimize space vehicle design, processing and mission success.

  • Troubleshoot and develop solutions to complex problems that the program may encounter.

  • Develop, author and/or provide input to major program data products and other deliverables.

  • Technical management of program elements

  • Planning and conduct of technical reviews and technical baseline

  • Writing status and technical performance reviews and reports

  • Mentor, coach, train, guide, direct and advise junior staff

  • Interfaces with program management and the customer on a weekly basis and presents technical solutions to a wide range of complex challenges during monthly programmatic management review meetings and major design reviews

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be a US citizen with an active Top Secret Clearance

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or related area and 9+ years of experience, Master’s Degree and 7+ years of experience, or a PhD and 4+ years of experience

  • Systems engineering experience

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills and technical presentation experience

  • Understanding of spacecraft integration & test

  • Complete understanding and wide application of technical principle, theories, and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines

  • Proactive. Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the Space Domain and familiarity with space vehicle subsystems and components.

  • Experience presenting to customers

  • Experience working with a cross-discipline team


Salary Range: $129,700 USD - $194,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
