Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking Lead Systems Modeling and Simulation Engineers to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. These individuals will report to the Director of Space Systems Sector Modeling and Simulation within the Chief Technology Office and will be located in Dulles VA. Remote operation from a different major Northrop Grumman facility with travel to Dulles VA approximately one week per month will be considered.

In this job, you will:

  • Lead modeling, simulation, and analysis studies across multi-domain mission threads, company kill-chain initiatives, and future concept architectures. These mission engineering studies will address the customers’ complex threat and mission environments.
  • Develop and integrate system simulation frameworks, performance models, and algorithms to perform system-of-system trades and assess architecture alternatives for delivering an effect, data, or capability within a broader campaign.
  • Work with a cross-functional team on unusually complex technical problems and construct analyses contributing to solutions which are highly innovative.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with 20+ years of experience in aerospace, defense or related professional industry – OR – a Master’s degree with 18+ years of experience as outlined above.
  • Analytic modeling, simulation, and operations analysis experience across payloads, platforms, and military or intelligence community missions.
  • Proficiency with at least two of the following programming/data analysis languages:
    • MATLAB
    • Python
    • C/C++
  • Active DoD Top Secret security clearance (with background investigation within prior 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).  US Citizenship is a prerequisite.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) and Sensitive Compartment Information (SCI) accesses.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to convey complex modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) topics, approaches, and results to internal and external senior-level customers in a compelling and understandable manner.
  • Proficiency in the following areas as they apply to MS&A concepts, techniques, and approaches:
    • AFSIM scripting and plugin development
    • Data analytics
    • Design of experiments
    • Model-based systems engineering (MBSE)
    • High performance computing
    • Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning
    • Containerization
    • Dev*Ops: collaboration, continuous integration/continuous development (CI/CD) pipelines; tools; infrastructure; and configurations
  • Experience working multi-domain and system of systems initiatives and in-depth understanding of USG strategies to closing kill chains.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience engaging with the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Intelligence Community (IC).
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. Government and Allied products and systems, missions, and operations.
  • Current Special Access Program (SAP) and Sensitive Compartment Information (SCI) accesses.

This position reports to Dulles, VA, USA, however, you are able to work from any of the additional 6 locations listed above.


Salary Range: $171,400 USD - $297,700 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
