Manager of Quality Engineering 3

This manager will lead a high performing Quality team covering Internal Audits, Compliance, and Configuration Management. This key leader will be report to the Director of Mission Assurance and will support ABL. Through continuous improvement and collaboration, the leader will influence optimization of efficient process and procedural compliance. The leader ensures that corrective measures address acceptable solutions. The leader must be committed to employee development, fostering a collaborative culture, and must be committed to achieving high levels of customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities for the position will include, but are not limited to:

  • Establishes and maintains compliance with Quality Management System (QMS) policies, procedures, and processes to ensure the performance and quality of product conform to established standards, specifications, and customer requirements. 
  • Ensures compliance through establishment and execution of internal surveillances and audits.
  • Supports and facilitates external audits for continued certification to AS9100.
  • Collaborates with Sector, Site Management, Manufacturing, Program Mission Assurance Engineering, Design Engineering, and other support teams to ensure quality is inherent and compliant.
  • Leads key program meetings including the Corrective Action Board (CAB), management reviews and customer reviews.
  • Serves as the site representative to sector QMS organizations and to internal and external audit entities.
  • Provides performance reviews and periodic feedback for all direct reports.
  • Develops and operates within departmental budgets.
  • Ensures rigorous configuration management process.
  • Provides overall management of the compliance and configuration management teams by setting and operating objectives and providing guidance to direct reports based on goals, objectives, and company policy.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technical discipline and 9+ years of experience in Quality, Quality Engineering, Quality Management or Configuration Management (7+ years of experience with a master’s degree, 4+ years with a PhD)
  • Demonstrated understanding of quality engineering, inspection methods, production control, manufacturing operations, product test & evaluation, reliability, root cause/corrective action analysis and facilitation, defect analysis, control of nonconforming material, product sell off, shipping and product support as they apply to quality.
  • Prior management experience.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining quality management system.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 or AS9100 based quality management systems; Lead Auditor certification, preferably in AS9100.
  • U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret clearance.
  • Teleworking not allowed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent
  • Extensive prior work experience in the application of quality principles and practices (e.g., quality engineering, inspection, material review, etc.) related to systems engineering, integration, and manufacturing.
  • Experience with other quality management systems (NADCAP, MDA, etc.)
  • Prior experience in continual improvement projects / activities
  • Working knowledge of configuration management process.
  • Active / Current DoD Secret clearance.


Salary Range: $138,400 USD - $207,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
