Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Senior Principal Structural Analysis Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals to support a prototype aircraft in a large program at Edwards AFB and is assigned to day shift (Monday through Friday) on a 5 day, 8 hours per day schedule. This position will analyze, research, and develop structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment, and maintenance designs. Additional duties include analyzing damage tolerance and the durability of metal and composite airframe structures. Tools utilized may include NX CAD, Femap, Nastran, and a variety of software applications.

Primary function is MRB Stress Analysis supporting a high paced production environment.

This position will begin in Palmdale, CA and will transition to Edwards AFB , CA with an expectation of 10% travel.

Candidate must be willing to work extended shifts, weekends and holidays as required to meet program schedule and objectives.

Essential Functions:

  • Flight Test experience highly desired for this role.
  • Provides stress MRB analysis for primary and secondary structure.
  • Review of completed analyses, drawings, and repairs for accuracy, clarity, and completeness.
  • Coordination and clear communication with other disciplines during the development of design solutions.
  • Concise presentation and explanation of structural issues/solutions to internal management and customer representatives.
  • Maintains and improves part designs, equipment, and systems in support of production deliveries
  • Develop solutions to difficult problems that are thorough, imaginative, practical, and consistent with program objectives.
  • Evaluation of as built products for conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications.
  • Experience in Structural Analysis Methods and documentation, including hand-sheet analysis, as well as the development and manipulation of large Finite Element Models.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field and a minimum of 9 years of related experience in aerospace structural analysis; OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM field with 7 years of related experience in aerospace structural analysis; OR a PhD degree in a STEM field with 4 years of related experience in aerospace structural analysis.
  • Experience in Bonded Composite Structural Analysis of primary and secondary aircraft structures.
  • Experience in Metallic Structural Analysis of primary and secondary aircraft structures
  • Experience in Structural Analysis Methods and documentation, including hand-sheet analysis, as well as the development and manipulation of large Finite Element Models.
  • Active, in-scope DOD Secret or Top Secret Clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Program Access (PAR) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Program Special Access
  • Experience working on Military Aircraft Flight Test Environment
  • Durability and Damage Tolerance (DaDT) experience
  • Experience as a Lead Engineer managing a small group of analysts
  • Experience with analysis of composite structure and repair methods
  • Experience with analysis of metallic structure and repair methods

Salary Range: $129,700 USD - $194,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
