Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has multiple openings for Mechanical Engineers or Principal Mechanical Engineers to join our team of qualified diverse individuals. In Vehicle Engineering, we develop manned and unmanned aircraft platforms for all the programs in the Aeronautics Systems Sector.

These positions will be located in Palmdale, CA and have the possibility to work multiple shifts:

  • Monday - Thursday on a 4 day - 10 hours/day schedule. Alternate hours or shifts may be discussed
  • Friday, Saturday, Sunday on a 3 day - 10 hours/day schedule (you will be paid for a 40-hour work week). Alternate hours or shifts may be discussed

We are looking for Engineers to become members of our multi-disciplined teams responsible for providing liaison engineering support to our multiple programs. In your day-to-day activities you will be working with subsystem installations and composite structures, performing timely dispositions for nonconforming parts, assemblies, and installations, as well as working as a part of a Material Review Board (MRB).

This position may be filled at either the Mechanical Engineer or Principal Mechanical Engineer level based on the qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications for a Mechanical Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a STEM discipline with 2 years of directly related engineering experience; OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline with 0 years of directly related engineering experience
  • Experience with the MRB process
  • Experience with CATIA v5, NX, Visualization Pro, TeamCenter, MES, or other CAD programs
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance. This clearance must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment. This SAP must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years of directly related engineering experience; OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years of directly related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 0 years of directly related engineering experience
  • Experience with the MRB process
  • Experience with CATIA v5, NX, Visualization Pro, TeamCenter, MES, or other CAD programs
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance. This clearance must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications for both levels:

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
  • Experience working in an aircraft manufacturing facility
  • Experience interfacing with a military customer
  • Experience working hands-on in a production assembly line environment
  • Experience with aircraft subsystem design
  • Previous MRB/LE Authority for Engineering


Salary Range: $77,100 USD - $115,700 USD
Salary Range 2: $95,000 USD - $142,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
