Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer or Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Mission Systems sector site in Apopka, FL. This position is to support the design, integration, test, and production of laser and optical systems for handheld, ground, and airborne products.  
 

What You'll Get To Do:

The Principal Mechanical Engineer or Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer will use ProEngineer to create CAD models and generate drawings and bill of materials (BOMs) for production and development projects. Candidate must be able to work within a multi-discipline team to support root cause corrective action (RCCA) determinations, generate engineering change notices (ECNs), update models and drawings, and release the appropriate documentation using TeamCenter applications. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment is critical.  
 
Roles & Responsibilities:
• Design/documentation of opto-mechanical and laser systems using CAD tools 
• Generating detail part drawings with tolerances to 0.001”  
• Generating assembly drawings and BOMs
• Generating ECs  
• Entering documentation into TeamCenter databases

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Mechanical Engineer:
• B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 5 years related engineering experience, or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering plus 3 years 
  engineering experience. 
• Creo, SolidWorks, or NX CAD design and drawing experience of electro-optic systems
• Experience with ANSI Y14.5M GD&T specifications  

• US Citizenship is required with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance 

 
 
Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer:
• B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 9 years related engineering experience, or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering plus 7 years 
  engineering experience. 
• Creo, SolidWorks, or NX CAD design and drawing experience of electro-optic systems
• Experience with ANSI Y14.5M GD&T specifications  

US Citizenship is required with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance 

 
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with TeamCenter Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) applications  
• Experience with military specifications  
• Experience in ANSYS FEA 
• Experience supporting the integration of complex laser and optical-mechanical prototypes 

 
 


Salary Range: $82,000 USD - $123,000 USD
Salary Range 2: $101,600 USD - $152,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
