Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems Sector has an opening for a Principal Structural Design Engineer / Sr Principal Structural Design Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals on our Vehicle Engineering department. This position is located in Melbourne, Florida. This position can be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

The Principal / Senior Principal Structural Design Engineer utilizes the NX-TeamCenter tool suite in the design or leadership of a design team in the development of primary and secondary aircraft structural parts, assemblies, and installations using metallic and/or composite materials for new aircraft design and/or modifications to existing aircraft.  Senior Principal Engineers work within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment, interfacing with IPT leadership, suppliers, customers, and other technical disciplines to independently prepare and/or lead the preparation of engineering design solutions to challenging problems through the development of Product Definition Packages.

Basic Qualifications for the Principal Structural Design Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of related professional/military experience to include a background in structural design OR Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related professional/military experience to include a background in structural design
  • Must have the ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.

Basic Qualifications for the Sr Principal Structural Design Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 9 years of related professional/military experience to include a background in structural design OR Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 7 years of related professional/military experience to include a background in structural design
  • Must have the ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience designing composite aircraft structure
  • Proficiency with NX Solid Modelling
  • Proficiency with TeamCenter

Salary Range: $82,000 USD - $123,000 USD
Salary Range 2: $101,600 USD - $152,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
