We are looking for you to join our team as a Principal Mechanical Engineer or a Sr. Principle Mechanical Engineer based out of Buffalo, NY. As Principle Mechanical Engineer or Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer at Northrop Grumman, you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation. What You’ll get to Do:

Be part of Northrop Grumman's dynamic Mechanical Engineering team in Buffalo, NY.  This team is responsible for the design and packaging of hardware sub-systems used in the testing of military radars, radar warning receivers, and jamming systems to protect the war fighter.  These Radio Frequency and Digital sub-systems consist of state-of-the-art custom designed and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware enclosed in racks, chassis, and circuit cards.  The group also provides an opportunity to design ground mobile test and training equipment used to train pilots and electronic warfare officers at training ranges throughout the country.  This engineering group is also responsible for air flow, thermal, structural, and component Engineering.

  

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Lead design modeling and drawing efforts utilizing Siemens NX and SolidWorks.  AutoCad may be used less frequently. 
  • Create or update layout drawings, fabrication drawings and engineering change orders, give design review presentations, and perform analysis (e.g. strength of materials, cooling). 
  • Lead junior Mechanical Engineers and Designers and manage work products including schedule and budgets. 
  • Other tasks will include manufacturing engineering liaison support, working with suppliers, hardware testing, and supporting Integration and Test (I&T) operations.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Mechanical Engineer 3:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience or a

Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field and 3 years of experience.

  • Extensive Working knowledge and aptitude of  mechanical systems and hardware packaging design.
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling tools.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment.
  • Ability to lead a group of cross functional Engineers and Designers
  • Confidence and proficiency presenting to peers, management (professors), and customers.
  • Ability for infrequent travel (<10%)
  • U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) secret clearance.

 

 

Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer 4:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field and a minimum of 9 years of related experience or a
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field and a minimum of 7 years of experience.
  • Extensive Working knowledge and aptitude of mechanical systems and hardware packaging design.
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling tools.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment.
  • Ability to lead a group of cross functional Engineers and Designers
  • Confidence and proficiency presenting to peers, management (professors), and customers.
  • Ability for infrequent travel (<10%)
  • U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) secret clearance.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of programing languages, especially Microsoft Excel VBA.
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling tools (Siemens NX, SolidWorks).
  • Working knowledge of thermal (ANSYS ICEPAK) and structural modeling.
  • Experience in a Department of Defense (DoD) environment.
  • Experience and confidence leading a cross functional group.
  • Sheet metal design.
  • Large welded structures.
  • Ground mobile equipment design; vehicles and trailered systems.

Salary Range: $86,300 USD - $129,500 USD
Salary Range 2: $107,000 USD - $160,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
